Last pip just hatched #9 . at least he isnt black.. chipmunk patterned. Looks like little Twist but it was a very light colored tan egg. There could be more pips but I dont see them.
YAY -- so the eggs Jake and I saw last weekend are hatching, so exciting! He was quite impressed with your incubator, not sure what the cards hold for our household, but hopefully we end up in a situation where he and I can venture into some hatching - if nothing else we can always hatch in whatever housing situation we end up in and house them at my sister's farm for the long-term. She's been wanting to get setup with chickens, this way she'll have built in flock tenders in Jake and I but she'll get to enjoy having them around the place and all the eggs, lol.

How are the "kids" doing -- did Little Twist and company ever stop being terrified of the girls? Too funny watching them try to climb the side of the brooder to get away from the girl cooties, something tells me for all the talking he does Big Twist might react the same in a room full of friendly women.....

you all know after reading about all the trials and tribulations of hatching/incubating you have begining to think either hatchery or hen-a-bator is the way to go.
LOVE a good ol' fashioned hen-a-bator --- can't beat a good broody -- but they don't always run on our schedules which is about the only downfall (imo). Last spring I was waiting for my broody to go broody with the intent of giving her the spring batch of day-olds to raise, finally had to give up, get them and put them in the brooder---two weeks later she went broody and spent the whole summer that way, when it was of no use to me.

I met one of ol mares sons today. He was such a pleasant person and seemed very devoted to his mom. He would look at her and smile like she was the best thing in the world. I was very impressed.

LOL - I'm pretty partial to the little brat, but don't let him fool you too much. He really is a good kid, but I think part of it was him being on his best behavior in a strange house - he's a bit like his mama in that, tends to clam up and observe. He went and turned 15 on me today.........my "baby"......where does the time go?????

On the flip side, I got to meet more of Granny's brood of grandsons - they are the CUTEST kids I tell ya, and funny. Definitely some strong genes in their family because the two we met this time look just like their older brother (chicken boy), it's like stair stepped clones!

its OCD obsessive chicken disorder.

Had to smile seeing this - in this day and age where everything offends someone this came up recently in a group I belong to on FB where someone was going on and on and on about how offensive it was because of the way it made light of the actual/legitimate disorder...........bit my tongue HARD and sat on my hands to avoid letting the things in my head come out through my keyboard.............I am SOOOO over the overly offended society we live in at this point
You got that covered with Robert, he sure isn't going to outrun you, lol. I agree that we can't just completely let ourselves go, but I'm totally over the dieting days & going to the gym. I work very physical stuff & if the weight isn't coming off doing that, then I say screw it

Preach it!!!!

true but it's easier to let yourself go a little after you have caught your S.O. and to fat I won't be able to out run the yaks. That
's why it's handy to have an even more gimped up person in the paddock with you

LOL, I've long said that it isn't about running faster than the bear/zombie/insert thing attacking you -- it's about running faster than the person next to you (and I'm not above tripping some people)

I'm three hours from day 19 but haven't put them in lockdown yet. I unplugged the turner this morning, but they're still upright in the bator, low humidity. Is it going to mess them up to lay them down now?

Hiya!!!! We have missed you but know you've been busy!!!

Hey there!

Busy is one word for it. Got DD's horse moved up north to the new place - and then helped get DD and her fiance moved into their new house (live in position at a boarding place - they get the house and board for Aero in exchange for work - BEAUTIFUL place, am a bit jealous, lol) and then I quit my job so am in the midst of a job hunt at the moment. I'd been unhappy for a while but it finally reached the point where I just couldn't bring myself to go in one more day.....I think it didn't help that I had gotten it into my head that there was a light at the end of the tunnel while we were exploring the Oregon opportunity so when that fell through it was really hard to try to get my head and heart back in the game -- there were a few other things that went on that finally pushed me over the edge of the cliff so I told DH I couldn't do it anymore. Had a very promising day today so have my fingers crossed waiting on a call-back - it's something that isn't meant to be permanent (so no hard feelings when the time comes for us to make the move - now thinking May-Aug time frame) and is right up my alley so we'll see....would also help to position me well for the job search once we get moved. In the meantime, at least I'll have more time at home (aka more time for BYC!)

So you don't know when or where you are moving yet... Limbo is never a fun thing but like you said try to take join in the things like BYC and time off.
