From what I know about worms, if you are seeing them in the poo, it is a serious case. Usually worm eggs are in the poop, which can be seen with a microscope.
Fly strike is when flies lay eggs around a chickens vent, the eggs hatch, and maggots begin feeding. Usually only happens in sick or wounded birds.
You need to give your hen a checkup. Look her over real good. Has she lost a lot of weight? Is the vent area clean? Any other symptoms?
Anyone know if you can give 4 week old chicks safeguard? I've sent Kathy a pm but haven't heard back yet.
It's when their backends get full of maggots or when they get an open wound and it fills with maggots.
everything looks clean. I did move her to this coop two days ago. She's been pacing with her mouth open . she's in the nesting box now. Maybe she's gonna lay her first egg in this coop.it just worries me when they act a little different. Maybe stress? That still doesn't explain what I've seen in her poop. Gonna look again. Maybe it was something she ate yesterday. From what I know about worms, if you are seeing them in the poo, it is a serious case. Usually worm eggs are in the poop, which can be seen with a microscope.

Well, she wouldn't get worms in 2 days, but a move will cause stress which then can lower their immunity to things like worms. So if she already had them, the stress could make it worse, but I think if she had such a big worm load, you would be seeing other signs like weight loss and increased food consumption. Also, the poop often looks abnormal, loose or foamy, even without seeing worms in it.
Do you worm regularly? When was the last time? I'm still not sure how young they can be to take the worming meds. It's best dosed by weight, though. Some areas are more prone to worms, so ask around on a local NC thread and see what people near you do. We have such dry summers here, worms are not a hugs problem. Now mites.... that's another story.![]()
Just saw your post about the normal poop. Yay! Keep watching to make sure. Could what you first saw have been some dander from feathers?
Hi Linda! You feeling any better today?Teen attitude adjustment working?
