Between teaching middle school and teaching at an adolescent drug treatment program, I think the kids' minds were very far away from what I was trying to teach. I taught in very poor areas, where teachers were really needed... because they burned out so quickly. It was combat duty.
Those are the teachers we need though... We live in a ghettoish area where kids seem to slip by and then they get that one teacher.... the one that pulls them up and gets them a good councillar and sends them on a good path. I have kids that resemble that.

well you all I still need to find something to eat for dinner and do my nightly routine.

So I shall wish you all a good night sweet dreams warm fuzzies and prayers
Night. cuz... guess ill explore BYC until someone talks on here.

I would try to focus on the kids that were trying. It was hard when the other kids were so disruptive... or on drugs... or in gangs... or sleeping in class because there was a drug raid at the apartment next door including gunfire... or their parents left them in a car on the street all weekend while the parents were inside "partying." It was very sad. And this was at the public school. Drug rehabbers were really sad.

That is horrible... but you are right, it is dependant on the kid too. I have a 4.0 kid that went through the same struggles as other friends in the neighborhoods... Friends hurt.. bad decisions but he chose to work hard.. I have one that struggles... he has severe adhd but also chooses to not focus as much.. I have to pull double duty on him and its nice when I have back up from the school.

It's good there you are there to support him. I had one parent tell me when he's at school he's your problem, don't call me again. Some kids don't have much of a chance.
