STORY TIME,,, i think i told you all i have my bator up . i have gotten 6 chicks so far from 9 eggs, they are the ones i found after mom passed. there were over 100 eggs out there and i candled them all and only kept the ones that were close to hatching. 9 . one egg bad, two in the bator, day before yesterday one piped and it sounded weak, i waited a long time and finally gave it just a little push, not much. i felt like i shouldnt, i even made a post about it, pip or zip. which by the way has some great hatching advise on it from sally sunshine. anyway later it did some more on its own and then we lost elect.

my husbands oxygen stopped and i was scrambling to get the portable going. then i thought of the chicks outside and i went and grabbed ol faithful, a silkie, she took the babies and was warming them so i came back in, grabbed the half hatched egg and the other one and gave it a try. about 130am we got power back. i was so tired because i had to stay up and change dh oxygen tanks and have the co. bring more out. (they only last a couple hrs) but i wanted to check. good thing too. it had finished the hatch but the silkie was busy with all the new babies and it was cold and barely breathing. the egg too. so back in the house and bator. i am very pleased to announce Miracle,the coal black silkie is alive and kicking. if not a bit weak . And i can feel the other egg moving in my hand.

well, guess i will continue the story, elect. went out , again ! i seen the trucks so i went down there and had a little talk with them.

i lost 4 babies last night including my only swedish flower hen. one of the babies i gave to the silkie too. maybe she just had too many. any6way, i took the baby back out there since it had its feet now and she wouldnt take him. i found mirical on his side gasping for air. the elect. is back on now and i gave him some sugar water and back in the bator AGAIN, and he seems to be doing ok. the egg? ya, i carried it in my armpit for about 2 hrs. and just as the elect. came back it started peeping !! in my pit! poor thing, if it hatches it shall be called lucky. hahahha

or stinky. i just got elect. on again, i wrote the above post a while ago. seems as if the storm we had last night snapped the line and it landed in the pond a couple doors down. fried fish for dinner. i got stuck in the barn as i was giving shots last night when the lights went out. the hail was so loud in the pole barn it was deafening . one of the cats freaked out and went flying into the storm. next time weather man says put your car in the garage i believe i will listen. i have no place ready for miracle. and lucky if he hatches. he is still in the bator at 97/99 degrees. if the other one hatches i may lower the temp. and just keep them there for a while

the second egg has not made an external pip and i havent heard it for a while. i know it was alive last night.

well, i have talked to myself before. kinda do it alot. lol and since it seems like everyone is out enjoying the day and i am not, i will do it again. 2 baby silkies dead, just a couple days old. i would guess from the elect. going out. one that hatched seems weak, and one still not hatched but getting close. does anyone have any suggestions on how to deal with my moms dogs? i want to make sure they go to awesome homes but they are not awesome dogs.lol i called the vet today to ask if they were even adoptable and she said yes. they are 9 and 4 the 9yr old loves kids but has a few minor health issues and is afraid of storms. the 4 yr. old is food aggressive, too protective, and likes to mark his territory. they are akc, fixed and i cant spell the breed but it ends in zoo.lol i am going to miss them but they are expensive. between the since diet, little cezars and hair cuts i just cant take that on. any suggestions are welcome besides shelters /pounds. the dog warden around here tells us to shoot the strays

you can look for a shih tzu rescue in your area.
I would cut out the science diet and little cesars.
At TSC, you can get a dog food called 4health. Look for the grain free fish formula. It's cheaper and much better quality than that other stuff.

i did look, in cinnci there is a couple but then i got confused on how they work and their dogs looked really bad. they have been on lamb and rice their whole life. i tried a different one and they get sick. am i doing something wrong? it was beef i think

thats a drive too about 90 miles i think. wonder if they would come get them? they are good places right?

You can also run an ad in the newspaper, post an ad at your local vet's office. There are also "no kill shelters" and rescues. Many animals in rescues and some shelters are fostered in loving homes until adopted. That way, a more compatible owner and good match for that particular pet can be found. All of my pets have come from rescues and wouldn't have it any other way.
