Nosebleeds can be pretty scary, especially if they bleed for a while. I hope your friend will follow up with her doctor, especially if she has any more. Yea, that would have scared the crap out of me too.

i am having a little problem, was hoping for ideas. i have peggy hill feet! yup, biguns. my chickens have itty bitty feet, sore ones. they are too friendly or hungry when i enter the coop. how can i get them to back up? i have tried throwing some corn away from the door but that only gets some of them.

I truly dont want to gross anyone out but i do need some advise. i have 2 hens i am wondering if something else is going on with. the first one is the one with the swollen eye i tried to drain 2 days ago. i did get some clear fluid, not much and very little blood out. as i was examining her, i did not see an eye but the swelling is severe. i gave her a shot of tylan under the skin and some around the sinus as well. she is eating and drinking tylan water . i took her out today to examine the eye and when i wiped with a paper towel a tremendous amount of a white thick substance was coming out of the eye socket . it was as big around as the eye socket itself and about (im guessing) 1in. came out.not all at once. i know she is feeling better or i would of culled her this morning. ok, hen #2 found her in the corner of the coop, very thin. both eyes, nose and beak are stringing with a snot looking appearance. it was going from her face to the ground. completely blinded from eyes being stuck shut. i washer her up and gave her a shot also. she is in the cage with the other. this is not what i dealt with before. any ideas are welcomed.

the others are showing good improvement.

Definitely sounds like MG to me. The tylan will eventually have no effect as well as other antibiotics due to the mycoplasma bacteria will have built resistance. MG can infect your whole flock. It can be carried on your clothing, shoes, hands etc...surviving birds are carriers for life and can spread to other birds especially when stressed. Since you're treating them, you must maintain a closed flock; no new birds in, no birds out, no hatching eggs to be sold or given away. Your other option is to cull sick birds, disinfect everything with oxine including coops, waterers/feeders, then repopulate in a few weeks. Mycoplasma diseases only last in the environment about 3 days under ideal conditions.
If you decide to keep your birds, I recommend Denagard which can be purchased from QC Supply. You can look them up online. Denagard treats mycoplasma diseases in poultry. There is no resistance, no egg withdrawal to the product. I believe there's a 2 or 3 day slaughter withdrawal period.
If you happen to smell a foul odor around their heads, you could also be dealing with infectious coryza. Sometimes MG and coryza infect birds together. If this is the case, I would most definitely cull. Good luck.

thank you dawg, i am going to keep the flock, for a while anyway. this is not what i dealt with before when it was supposed to be crd. the 2nd hen had passed this morn. and #1 is looking better still. suzierd and eggsessive did mention the denaguard to me. maybe more people , not sure. it seems to be a reasonable cost for them per/yr. they are mostly but babies, if they were old i would cull. i am a bit disappointed about not showing off the crested cream legbars eggs but i will survive. lol i wont be eating them either so cat food? or would it be bad for the cats too? i just realized this morning as i am tossing eggs that my laying hens, who have never been sick, is eating those eggs and i am eating hers. they free range and have their own coop. was wondering why they never got sick.maybe it would be healthier to cull them all for my family's sake.

i sure dont want to. i think i would be so heart broken i wouldnt want any more at all.

CRD is MG. There are different strains of the disease, mild to severe. MG is not transmittable to humans, I see no reason not to eat the eggs if properly cooked like anything else. However tylan injectable has a 7 day withdrawal period, tylan soluable has a 1 day withdrawal period.
