When I was at the feed store picking up chicks a man and his daughter asked to by one turkey chick. The feed store hand said a single turkey wouldn't live, they'd have to get a pair.

I don't know if he's right, but maybe someone else on here knows. Maybe since you have chickens it would be close enough that the one wouldn't feel alone?

hmm, i wouldnt think lonely would kill them but they may not thrive. all my chickens will be gone by spring and i will start over with lf chicks. i think i am going with the buff orph. at least thats the plan. we all know the math dont add up. but i do want a healthy flock.

come to think on it being lonely might be a good thing. depression makes people eat more. maybe it will a hen too? lol

Ha, ha. He might have been trying to increase sales too.

You'll have plenty of time to think and plan. I often think the dreaming is the most fun part.

It took me 3 or 4 years to decide I wanted chickens and then a year to decide what and how. (And I'm still working on things to make them better and my birds are 18months old!)

planning is the best part. but the time thing, you must be young . the older you get the faster it seems to go. and yes, he probably was waiting on more money.

i want this guy back ! he is pretty. wonder what he was. looks like some kind of cochin to me. see if i can find a better pic.
ya, that guy

See these 2 beautiful splashes? They are a mix, dad is a Crested Polish and I don't know who their mom is. I believe one to be male and one female. They have not been sleeping in the coop and now one seems to be missing. I caught one and it is locked up, I think it's the male. I wanted to breed them and see if I could get more like them but if the other one doesn't show up, I will have to try the next best thing which is a white girl with black spots.

I was looking at his legs today and they look a slate blue (or maybe grey). The one I caught is the one on the right, the one with more color. I'm not sure but I think he could be called a blue splash. I hope the other one shows up, I'd love to see what they could produce. Their babies might even be able to point me to which hen is their mother. I do have 2 or 3 more coming up that look similar. Probably the same parents, definitely the same dad.

very cute, look hen to me but my eyes are not all that. hope the ones coming will be a match for you. arent the slate legs polish?

I have 2 purebred Crested Polish males out there and I don't think I have looked at their legs in a long time. LOL I don't know if slate colored legs are one of their features. It doesn't seem to me that Elvis has slate legs. I am probably wrong but it seems to me his legs are black or a shade of black. The other one, the cockerel is grey colored so his legs might be slate colored but for sure he isn't old enough to be this one's father. I got him about the time the splash one hatched. He was no more than 3 days old at the time.
