thanks suzeird . i could probably sleep now afraid i might miss something. First chick ever. ok, Story time !!! 12/13 yrs. old. i was living of all places a chicken coop. lol yup a chicken coop. with my grandma and mom. my uncle lived up the holler and he turned his little chicken coop into a small house for grandma. mom left my step-dad again. seemed to happen at least once a yr. or so. we didnt have much and my birthday was due. my aunt and uncle had a working farm and mom got a couple chickens from them to cook for my birthday. so mom says, "what do you want for your b-day?" and me, knowing she didnt have money said, "I want that chicken" she said well honey , you know i am going to fix them for your birthday and i said no, you dont understand . i want THEM for my b-day. we compromised, she cooked one , i kept one. pretty little red. well, i never had chickens before so i had no idea what they could and couldnt do. i watched moms pitiful attempt to ring the chickens neck. she swung it around and around by its neck and then gave it a fast jerk and threw it down to the ground. the chicken stood up, looked at her and said, "BAWWWKK" and walked away with its neck hanging to the side. Mom said, never , never again will i kill a chicken and i said well mom, dont look like you got this one. so we left it there at my uncles and took my new prize home. i gave it free range day and night. she liked to hop on my lap and be stroked on the head. she was awesome. a great friend when i had no one. winter came fast on us that yr. and mom woke me up ( this was about 3 months later) to tell me a big ice storm had come and my beloved pet was dead and frozen to the ground. . i was the only one able to reach it so slipping down the little hill i reached her to pick her up. she was stuck to the ice. i had to pry her feet from the ground. ice cycles went from her wing feathers to the ground and from beak to ground. i snapped them all off and as i picked her up i hear this, "rrrrr" sound. she is alive !! mom said she will die, just throw her under the house/ storage area. i did and the next day we went to dispose of the body and what a surprise to see my little red hen come flying out. it was like the Steven King movie pet cemetery. she came back but not without consequences. she would bring me things to the porch about every day. half frozen snakes , mice chipmunks ect.. totally scared us both and one day she just didnt come home. that is the story of my first chicken. 40 odd yrs. ago
 
ok enola, when ever you are ready. in the mean time, Grannys gone and done it ! I am sitting here hurting so i take a pill. start getting a bit tired and i close my eyes for a bit. I dont think i fell asleep if i did it was for a second only . i hear the computer make a message noise and a pm is telling me we will be there after 2:30 tomorrow. what??? it seems as i will be receiving 2 Egyptian fayoumas bantam chicks tomorrow. delivered to the door for 10 dollars. (sigh) i honestly dont know how that happened . one thing i do know , my husband isnt going to believe one word of that. and half of you guys either but its the truth any way. so, am i the only one that didnt know what terriers were breed to do? every since i got frosty i have been smelling dill pickles in my bedroom. mold i am sure from the water heater. well, today frosty brought her "chew toy" out from under the bed, it was a mouse. long gone she had took a chew bone under there and never brought it back out so i thought that is what she was chewing on. now i sit here and think back to all the lovely bed time kisses she has gave me and i want to puke.
 
got a bit of good news today. we will be getting some help in here starting monday 2 hrs. each so 4 a day every day, my husband for 4 months and myself is 6 months but longer if needed for myself. how very odd but i do feel blessed to have the help. cooking, cleaning, bathing what ever i will need. lol hope whoever comes can cook especially fudge. seems like its been this past Christmas since i have had any. LOL
 
Yay for the help! Maybe they can check for more "chew toys" under your bed.

(Good girl, Frosty!) You sound like you are feeling better, or am I reading things too optimistically?
 
OH MY ACKING CRACK!!!!!!!!!!! FINALLY managed to get to the point where BYC might let me post something. Took over 5 hours to read 4 pages of posts. Not sure what their problem is/was. Have been praying for you every night there granny just couldn't get anything to post to let you know that. SO very glad things went well with the surgery!!! BAck to when you were thinking about getting a turkey. You do know that you shouldn't raise turkeys and chickens in same area. Chicks give the turkeys some illness black head or something like that. Results in dead turkeys and live chickens. My little ones are already starting to lay and only 17 weeks old this is a good thing. My old gals (2 years in sept) seem to be on strike out of 60 plus birds got 8 eggs yesterday and that is better then some in the past week, week and 1/2. Maybe I disturbed them by all of the banging on the walls with a hammer, and NO was not killing bugs or practicing the drums nephew and I put vinyl siding on the coop and after it just being house wrapped for about 2 years. Also siding another small building that I am calling the annex (another coop for something) just need to get gates up for that building. Will have to have my nephew take some picks of the new girls and then post some here for you. GET WELL and Warm Fuzzies.......
