well, guess i will call it like i see it. I have and am going down that respiratory road for months and months. and you will too. it just keeps coming back. as bad as #2 is , i would cull her. tractor supply sometimes has tylan. I have ordered the powder and the shots. I decided to try the denaguard because so many people gave it good reviews as a treatment and a preventative. It is easy to use same price or cheaper then the tylan and works fast. plus there is no egg withdrawal or resistance build up to the antibiotic. plus what i got will last a long time.

Campingshaws, casportpony has an excellent thread on treating wet pox. Kathy is very nice and willing and able to help others. The thread shows the affected chickens and documents her treatment. Well worth the read for the information. Sorry you're having to deal with this. If you type in 'treating wet pox' in the search bar, hers is the first one that shows up. Yes, you definitely want to clean out the lesions in the mouth so that they can continue to eat.

Thanks for pointing me in that direction! I've read tons of Kathy's other stuff but had not seen this before. Here's the link for anyone else interested: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...x-xxx-rated-graphic-pictures-of-pus-and-scabs

WARNING: it's super disgusting. My hen #2 looks like her hen #6.

I'm going out to vote later, and I'll stock up on chicken supplies and really doctor them this afternoon. Picking scabs is going to do me in; luckily I have a big box of gloves ready.

How strange. I was planning to pm Kathy and ask her to check in here for some more advice. You beat me to it!

She is on my local thread and really knows her stuff. She researches everything and helps people no matter how many times she's repeated herself.

campingshaws, so sorry about your birds. As horrible as it looks, they can recover. It happened to me. I was 25 when I got chicken pox. It was really ugly. I covered all the mirrors in the house, because my face was so deformed, it would make me depressed and panicky at the same time. Took a long while, but I recovered just fine. Still not overly fond of mirrors, though.

The only thing I can add is to make sure the Neosporin does NOT have pain reliever in it. Things ending with "-caine" like lidocaine, can be fatal for some chickens.

Oh, and an eye wash is different than saline solution. It has a small amount of boric acid which makes it a good antiseptic. Better for your needs than saline.

Wishing4wings, it killing me not knowing if my seramas are going to look like the parents seeing as how they are the same breed different color. ( i think i am saying that right) I am going to great pains to make sure every thing is perfect. I just finished the brooder and i have 2 throws over it to maintain 95 degrees in half of it. I even went so far as to figure out how it will need to be at week one and 2 . I have it in a cubby hole with a cage that just fits in there to make it look like a built in and right next to my recliner. I am so far gone with these 3 eggs. if they dont thrive or hatch I am going to be so very sad. this is the first thing i have had to look forward to in a long time. the new bator is pretty nice. I havent put anything in it yet but it got to 99.5 in less then an hr. and has stayed between that and 99.3 I havent added water yet . i will do that tomorrow. it has more and better water channels in it too. because i have an older model turner and it was a tight fit in my older bator i am hoping it will fit. if not i guess i will use the new one for lock down.
