almost forgot to tell you guys. My daughter, she still hasnt ate or drank anything but the other end worked SOOO, they are sending her home. dr. said if she can drink a boost and keep it down she can go then they did her discharge papers. she didnt even try to drin k it but she is going anyway. the chick is trying to zip but its just making a bigger circle. I took a look at the air end and there is still blood veins. I wrapped it in a moist paper towel and put it back. I am pretty sure by the position i will have to finish the hatch but not yet.

I dont mind the snow if i dont have to go out and i dont but when the lights are flickering i get nervous. LOL . of course having to go play in the water when they need a refill is a different story. be really nice if i could have my boots on. my toes are open in this breg boot

We've had a couple of nights below freezing; I brought in some day lilies that I never got in the ground, but I didn't cover anything. Well, yesterday it was raining so hard at 7 am I was dragging big sheets of tin from the woods so I could cover the chicken run. It has farm wire over it, but they were just standing in the rain and looking so pitiful. Today they're all puffed up and staying in the coop, for the most part. It's sunny and not too cold, but I think the wind really cuts.

We're leaving this week for Iowa, and of course the day after we leave there will be highs in the 70s. I won't be here to enjoy it, but I won't worry so much about my chickens in the hands of others.

I've got some teenagers to check on my chickens for $5 a day. I'm going to tell them to throw more pine shavings in the coop when it gets too mucky; I've thought about showing them what to do with the dirty bedding, but I don't know if $5 is enough to cover that. It doesn't take long, though, and isn't hard to do... so maybe I'll just ask. Or maybe an extra $5 if they do it. Just once should be enough.

it i could find someone to care for my chickens through the winter for 5 dollars a day i would have them here every day !! will you be on here while you are gone ? I hope you have a safe and fun trip. I still have no idea what to do for thanksgiving. Mcdonalds??

Sure will! I'm on the computer today, but usually I do BYC from my phone. Should be no change!

Do whatever you want for Thanksgiving! My favorite meals are the ones that aren't just like everyone else. Every Christmas day my grandma would spend hours baking turkey and ham and all the casseroles and whatnot that goes along with it. But my favorite Christmas "meal" was Christmas Eve, when we would eat tamales and meat pies. Now that my grandma isn't doing the cooking anymore, we only have the meat pies and tamales. :D

you are right, why am i sweating it ? I will figure out somthing simple that wont kill me standing in the kitchen .

aww, he is a cute one. I love looking at cats, kittens. puppys. we must all have a strong mama instinct .maybe i can get my friend to post my cat tomorrow when/if she comes. we got 5in. of snow so far. I hear the little one making some noise. hope it makes it but that will put me in another now what. the buddys are in its cage. they are good sized already. Question, If your eggs freeze but dont crack and thaw , are they still good eggs to eat??? also, the reason my chicks are turned wrong was because my lock down bator was too cold. it shouldnt happen again.

We have had the minus (-) teens at night all weekend with 25 to 40 mph winds. Silly roosters in the "maternity ward" got to messing around and killed the heat lamp glass everywhere and the bedding was starting to smoke. Got lucky on that one. Next nice day they are getting to meat their maker. Gen Pop seems to be doing fine have the waterers on heaters and light on from 6 am to 9 pm. Don't open the big door as we now have an automatic one they use. Made the ramp from and old oven rack nailed to 2 scrap 2x6's. Getting in the 40's for eggs a day now. This started right after I gave them sour raw milk. Connection??? Still is not going to save about 20 to 30 of the older ones though going to REhome them into stock and meat for dumplings and soups and other nummies.
