I can't remember exactly. Maybe a day early, but it had problems.

Here's what granny posted in the raising chicks section:

hi, this is my first serama and i am having a time with it. its 4 days old and i dont see it eating ,drinking or pooping. it is so tiny i cant tell if there is anything in the crop at all. Back ground. malpositioned, feet in air sac. couldnt hatch but did a pip. small amount of blood. quarter size. Took me 17 hrs. to hatch it. it is the size of a large grape. umbilical had the waste attached it fell off today. it is in a divided cage with 2 silkie babies on the other side. Problem, doesnt seem to want to peck, lethargic. it has a loud cry. Things i have tried, wet food, rooster booster with vitamins, probiotics, electrolytes. switched from flock raiser to chick starter with vitamins and cocci meds. sugar in the water as well. today i gave it yogurt with some of the R.B. sprinkled on it then some with the feed mixed in. I did see it swallow 3 times. I have to tip its head to get the water in it. It is so very tiny I dont believe i could tube feed it. Any suggestions would be helpful please.

Size of a large grape! Wow that's little. Temps are right? Warm enough? Can move out from under heat? I would put a litte stuffed animal in with it for comfort.

How you do that wishing?

lol, temps are good. 93 on one end 98 on the other. it seems to hang on the 93 side. it hatched on day 20 but i think i went over past midnight making it 21 i guess. not quite. I read a few post where others had fed raw yolk so i got that mixed fed and powdered R.B. in it. It really liked the taste. it is sneezing some as are the 2 silkies. . they dont act sick . the silkies are very playful. so i got the bright idea to add just one drop of the denaguard to the yolk. all of a sudden it wanted nothing to do with it. LOL I know its bitter. so i thought i would give the left over to the silkies. it took them all of 5 seconds to have egg yolk stuck to the feathers on their feet. been keeping them busy though.

Is denagard safe to give that young? Don't know. I would just get him eating first. What are you using for beding?

its bound to be a rooster. all the trouble makers are. I have noticed myself calling them boys when i have problems and girls when they are good. LOL thats my mom coming out there. Suzierd,

did you see the picture? it is standing next to a 2 week old silkie that is laying down. this darker chick is 24 hrs. old silkie . it is twice the size.

i dont know if it was safe or not but it was one drop in the lg. egg yolk and it didnt get but maybe one time swallow. figure if i am treating for almost every thing i might as go all the way.

The fact he's still alive is a good sign. I think the Denagard is fine for chicks, but I read about over a year ago. If you know anyone on BYC in the UK, Europe, or Australia, they could look it up for you. Access to the info has been blocked for those of us here in the US.

Hehe granny, I am the cut and paste queen!

Oh what an adorable little guy. I don't really think that I know half of what you most of you already know about chicks. Granny, is he pooping yet? Is the vent clear and visible (I would really need my reading glasses or a magnifier for that, I'm sure.) It's more economical to give 1 drop of the rooster booster each day orally to the chick than to put it in the water. No other vitamins should be needed, but electrolytes or the sugar water can still be used. Yogurt is not well digested by chickens, and the probiotic powders work better. Granny if you have Probios, the dosage is 1/4 tsp per quart, or 1 tsp per gallon of water. I use full fat buttermilk some times to give probiotics to my chickens, and I whisk some into some raw eggs, and dribble it over bread crumbs or chick crumbles--then watch your hands! I would give the chick cocci medicine or any others right now because they can affect his vitamins and good gut bacteria. It's probably good to let him be with the others for stimulation as long as he isn't trampled, and I would just use some paper towel on the brooder floor, and sprinkle crushed crumbles for him to walk around and eat. Dip his beak in the water as often as you can. When re-filling water each day, make it slightly warm. I hope your little guy starts perking up.
