Wow Granny your Grandson is passing blood? How old is he? Hope he and your daughter are alright, sounds like your family has had more then your share of health problems.
The big storm didn't hit us to bad here had some nasty gust but didn't last long thankfully, I hate the wind. We had a tree come through the roof of our bed room at 3 in the morning one time and scared the heck out of me. It's been raining so much it's a muddy mess out there and I slip and slide and fall trying to do the chicken shores one of these times I'm going to break something. Let's hope it only a egg

Wishing I would hate it if my husband where in China when a storms hitting. Hope all is well with you and your peeps.
he is home now. I assume he is ok. they wont tell me muck. he is 8 and he is the one that told me mama fell in the hospital. her bp was 170/ 115 so ? they told her to follow up with a heart dr. a tree through the roof would of made me pee my pants.

Hi everyone. Should have checked in yesterday. We've had well over 5 inches of rain in the last couple days. We need it, so no complaints. Luckily we didn't get much wind here, so the power stayed on. Yay! Except for a short bit of time late last night, it has been raining steadily for 42 hrs. We're not used to it! Plenty of flooding, trees down, roads damaged, and power outages, but not near me, thank heavens. Hubs comes home tomorrow night. This is the fourth (fifth?) China trip for him this year. Lost track!

We can text and Skype and there's a phone he can use to call internationally, so he gets all the gory details from home.

Also, my dad, sister, and brother all live less than 15 minutes away, so there's always backup if I need it. School was cancelled yesterday and today as well, so boys get a 4 day weekend. Not the best thing to happen right before finals week! Seems they had trouble getting enough staff able to come in to keep things running.

There's a little break in the rain. Going out to check on chickens. Back in a bit!

yes, you should have!! are we allowed to ask what your husband does for a living ? is that rude? I am glad you have family close by.

Granny, I have been home 5 weeks now. Got my first egg today! My chickens are finally looking normal again.........
ep.gif
no way 5 weeks ! its been like a week. LOL glad you are getting eggs again. I found a pheonix feather in the coop today i thought was pretty so i stuck it in my pocket intending to show it when i got back in the house and then i thought, they already think i am nuts. so I put it with my secret collection of wind eggs. LOL blown out and painted of course.

Last winter i bought some cheap boots fromTSC. waterproof . They work pretty good.. Sun was shining, looked so pretty out so i thought i would take advantage and scrub the water containers out. I couldnt find my scrub brush on a handle but how bad could it be ? it was in the 30s. I have back up water pans and what have you so when they are dirty i can swap them. I had a lot to wash. I turned the hose on and got busy, I missed.

I was soaked from head to toe but i was already there and so was all the waters so what ya gonna do? by the time i finished, and i did them all, I have to endorse the boots. my socks were the only thing left that was dry and warm. even my hair was wet ! little FYI, When you scrub those little screw on things that go to the quart bottles, dont put the hose on full blast unless its at least 90 out.

I am a terrible shopper and my husband is making me feel bad. he has told me twice, "I know you bought me something for Christmas and i am going to be mad because i havent got you anything". SURPRISE !! i bought him a package of socks and underwear. I didnt do any better for my son, 3 shirts and a set of sheets . oh, and a 5 dollar pocket knife. I have a little money but not a clue. he is 77 and has more then he needs but i guess thats not the point is it. same with my son, he has his gaming system and dont care about anything else. what i did find out my son would like i cant afford of course. an old western duster. brown leather that hangs to or past the knees. Really? I looked them up, around 200 dollars. I was thinking more along the lines of 25-50 dollars for them. I know they are my family and i am supposed to know what they like but i am lost here. something thats not clothes or personal hygiene. It would have to be something you like but dont need. can anyone help a Granny out ?

Western duster sounds like chaps? You could check CL you might find a nice pair cheaper. What about a new game? For your husband maybe his favorite candy a bottle of wine, new shirt, belt, movie. I still have a lot of shopping to do too
Granny you shouldn't be giving yourself a shower out side like that it's to cold

A duster is a waterproof coat with a gusset in the back so when riding a horse the coat will drape on both sides of the horse, meanwhile the rider's legs are still protected from the weather. They also come with a wool liner that makes it warm enough for the colder weather.

Geez, can't an old gal have a few days of misery without everyone doing the same? Had the "procedure" done on Tuesday. It was NOT what he had done on the lower back which was to cut the nerve. He injected directly into the facet joints on either side of the spine of four vertebrae. OUCH! Was completely out of commission until this morning. They did not put me completely out during the procedure and it was very painful and THEN he told me it would be very tender and sore for a few days. So far, only marginal relief but it is supposed to come on gradually. Something better happen and soon cuz I'm like you Granny - can't stand those darn pills. I've got a houseful coming for Christmas. At least they are family and will accept whatever I'm able to do. First Christmas with my daughter in quite a few years.

Granny, my best to your daughter and grandson. Sick kids are the worst thing. Hope he is ok soon.

I've seen the wild weather you folks are getting out on the west coast. The Russian River flooded. Wow, there are folks there who have probably never seen so much rain at one time in their lives. I hope everyone is safe and sound.

I had to send my husband to the store to buy eggs! Hurt my feelings really bad. LOL Feathers are coming back and they are looking good except for my EEs. They were the last to start molting and it's been really cold (for us) here. Low 40's at night for a couple of weeks. Funny, I make sure they have fans in their coops for air circulation because it's so hot and humid the majority of the year, but nothing I can really do when they are naked and it's cold.

Granny, if you have a military surplus store you might check that out for a duster.

Hey, there's some blue sky this morning! Rain is supposed to return on Monday so a dry weekend is a good thing for now. Chickens are grumpy when they can't roam, so it will be a roaming weekend for them.

My sprayer to clean the waterers developed a crack and little jets of water come out the side and always hit me in the face! Gah! Have to wipe it off fast because the well water etches my glasses if it has a chance to dry. One of these days I'll remember before I get sprayed.

For gifts for the person who has it all, I am a big fan of consumables. My dad and brother fall into that category. Dad likes chocolate covered cherries, so I'm going to See's and get him a small box of super delicious ones, that he would never buy for himself.

Just a little something to open. If your son has a particular game that he likes (or is obsessed with, like my boy) there are "official guides" to many games that give extra tips and pointers. I know it just feeds the obsession, but at least they look at something besides a screen for a little while. I haven't done any shopping yet. Going to keep it very simple this year.

Hubs gets home tonight. He works for a small local company that makes custom LED lighting systems, mostly for commercial buildings and special architectural projects, like museums. He's the head engineer.

Is your son is playing a video game with a western theme? Thought maybe that's where he got the idea for the duster. My youngest was inspired by some explorer game and is now making himself a sword. He carved a wooden handle, hacksawed a point on a flat strip of metal, and has been pounding it to try to put edges on it (after heating the metal in an outdoor fire pit started with flint and steel). Aren't boys a hoot?! It looks cool, but is taking far too long. Grandpa has kindly loaned his electric grinding wheel for the project. If your son appreciates gag gifts, you could get him a Swiffer duster and pretend you didn't understand.

Well, maybe not. My guys would only think it's funny if the next box contained the gift they really wanted.
