Green eyes as a pup, gold now. She points occasionally. She was a good puppy, quiet in the kennel and hardly chewed anything. She's got a pretty soft mouth. I want to teach her to help me herd the chickens by going right, left, etc.

So, nobody is saying why they really want females ?  they are just smarter , thats all. they train easier, more protective, they make people money if they want to breed. .LOL mainly they are just smarter then the males.  my moms 2 dogs male and female, even though they were fixed he still wanted to mark the house. including my bed. had to be very careful to keep doors closed around here. he was a sweet fun loving dog, just not real bright. I personally wont have an animal that is not fixed but as you can tell, I like the girls as well

Your just a kind hearted animal lubber Granny ♡

I do like tons of animals, just seems like i understand them way more then people. they are too complicated for me. say one thing, mean something else. hints, I dont get hints. LOL I was having my cocker help with the chickens, she is one you kinda dont need to train. she just does it when i ask her to. what i forgot to tell her was what to do if one miss behaved and refused to be rounded up. it went running around the house to make its escape, refusing to go near the coop. Poor star thought she was doing her job by physically bringing her back to me and dropping it at my feet. feathers every where. good thing she has a soft mouth as well. I did stop using her after that though. once they get a taste and chase its on. The babys are not such babys any more. they are chasing and fighting already. about 4 roos that i am aware of so far. pecking the hens in the head and chest bumping each other with their little feathers sticking out around the neck. I was sitting in there watching them and i was singing, ( i only sing to the chickens) and one of them started crowing over and over. LOL I dont know if i was hurting the little guys ears or he was just singing along but when i stopped so did he. I am going to try and go back and see when i got them, I know their not that old. they were between 1&2 weeks when i got them.

Personally I think females are easier to train but it also depends on the personality of the owner. My brother should never have a female. Usually the females sell first then black and white males then the liver and white males. MY personal preference is black and white females. Mom and babies are doing well puppies happy 9 dinner plates and they still fight over who gets what LOL. Lu got an egg and some bread to help with possible indigestion from eating all the puppy sacks and afterbirths. Se if finally sleeping. Still doing laundry nothing like puppy "juices" in your bed. Sounds like maybe granny should name the roo with tap shoes Sammy Davis or Fred or Gene. Have to get some puppy chow tomorrow sigh I hate walmart.

Ha! Great names for granny's little tappy-toes chick!

Kind of sad about about male dogs being harder to place. Guess it depends on what you want them for. Granny, I think you speak the truth about female dogs. I always thought of them as being more intense while the males seem more laid back. In my whole dog experience, we've only had mixes and strays and most were good on the farm, but I've never had dogs of the same type to compare temperament. Our females were definitely more in charge, but the males were better company. Since I have such a small place now, males seem a better fit. Maybe not as smart, but a little more malleable and less challenging.

She's five this month, has awful allergies and dumb as rocks. But I love her!

So sweet. As I understand it, they were bred to be lap dogs and companions. Sweet and dopey are good traits for that.

What type of allergies does she have? Is it common in the breed? My sis wants one and this might be something to consider.

She has food and flea allergies. She has to be totally grain free. We hit a magic combination in early summer and she stopped scratching enough for her fur to grow back in, but we've since lost that combination and are struggling to find it again. :/

They are a great breed, but have a lot of potential health risks, the biggest being a heart defect. Most breeders are actively trying to breed it out (like hip dysplasia in other breeds) so it's possible to still get a good pup. It usually shows up after 4-5 years old; I haven't had Dolly's heart listened to in a few years because I'd almost rather not know.

I've heard rumors of some sort of cranial issue that came from breeders trying to make them too small? But I don't remember much info to back it up. We bought Dolly with breeding rights but ultimately decided not to because she's just a little too small for the standard.

Never miss the coffee, enjoying a cup right now. I scare my husband when he wakes me if I fell asleep on the couch. I about jump off the couch, but I jerk myself awake frequently. I have to ask Granny, what did you do to your foot? I must have missed a post about it.

I had some surgery done on it. Achilles tendon repair and some of the bone had to go including 2 spurs and part of the heeI guess some of the bone has crumbled in there as well so he had to take a lot of crap out. then it got infected and wouldnt heal. its been 3 months but because of a couple falls and me not wearing my boot like i was supposed to I set myself back and I am supposed to have 6 more months to go. I need to point out for some, no names twisted, hehee the only time i fell was when i had that stupid boot on.
