I am seeing white under the eye and under what i would assume to be frostbite. Think we better call in the experts on this one. comb missing as well like this is not the first time but not the pox.

Hi all, I'm back :)

Hope everyone is feeling good and having a nice day. The sun is shining here so I got out and finished the chicken coop/yard cleaning that I started yesterday. I have a young helper with me this weekend, her parents are good friends. She's 16, a straight A student, and wants to be a vet. Every other weekend or so she comes up to help with the critters and learn more about their needs and how to take good care of them. This summer she'll spend every other week with us as our "ranch hand" and make some $ to put away for college. It's a win/win deal cause she's as good as gold and sweet as they come... and quiet to boot.

Granny, I've got 12 chickens total. 4 silkies (1's a roo, 2 hens, and an 8 week old chick), plus a mutt 8 week old baby roo, and the following hens: 2 wellies, 1 blue copper marans, 1 buckeye, and 3 EE's. I've got 30 some odd more ordered to arrive in April and August,, but have to whittle the list down so my coops won't be too crowded. Coops are 5x6 (built by hubs who tolerates my passion for chickens but doesn't share it), and a smaller one that's 4x4 I think (using it for mom and her 2chicks presently). I forget how big the run is, but hubby calculated that I could have lots more than I do (like 150 maybe?). Wish I'd built a ginormous coop to begin with, but I had no idea at the time how much I'd enjoy them.

All my girls are laying again... Yay! Love love those pretty eggs. :)

Welcome Sunset! I have 14: four speckled sussex hen and a roo, two lavender/splash orpingtons, two australorp mixes, one FBCM, and four mystery white layers.

I also got the coop cleaned today! I haven't gotten an egg since October/November. :hit

I think it's just whittled away. I've seen the hens pick it til it bleeds. I should have isolated him a week ago, but we spent five days on the easy coast and I didn't trust my sitters to tend him properly.

Sunset, sounds like my husband as well. he does it for me but rather not. sounds like you have a nice flock going on there. No cleaning done here. I think my coops are cleaner then the house. How the world people handle 6 kids is beyond me. I have a temp. helper. he is 8 and likes what he is doing but he dont want me to come with so I slip out later and make sure all is well.

how do you abbreviate your state ? everyone is telling me LA thats not right is it? what did your temps. drop to?

LA is right. Or La. I can't remember the exact temp, but we were supposed to cover plants and bring pets indoors. I lost a few plants in the yard. Mid to low 20s?
I am confused with California. 20s will do the frost bite. its not bad though. thats why it didnt turn purple.
