I have learned if you want trees to live besides going native (which is always a good idea) order the bare root ones. and dont amend the dirt. It just causes a pond to form. fertilize from the top after the 2nd year.Oh my gosh - you aren't kidding about the ground out here.......it is just ridiculous. I attempted a garden our first year here - haven't bothered since. I may do some sort of contained/raised or in-pot stuff this year so I can just use good ol' store bought dirt, but that's the only way to get anything to grow here.
Haven't made rice crispy treats in a while. Don't the chocolate chips melt? Well, if they do, I guess you have chocolate crispies. Need to put marshmellows and rice crispies on my grocery list.
Good memory. One year we took a trip to RI. Being as I'm up before everyone else I made the walk to the local bakery. Bought a paper and sat there reading and watching the locals headed to work. All this talk of donuts finally got to me, so #2 son and I made the next best thing- rice crispy treats! With mini chocolate chips. Mmmmm. Only took about 10 minutes and the pan is over half gone already. Put a serious dent in the donut cravings.![]()
The best place near us for good donuts is a seedy little place run by 3 Chinese ladies. The place is packed every morning with locals looking for a good cup of coffee and a scrumptious donut. It's the Anti-Starbucks!They also serve basic breakfasts and simple lunch items including some stir fry dishes. My favorite is the glazed buttermilk old fashioned.![]()

Sorryyou have all sand dont you? we need to mix soils add our chicken poop and we would both have perfect growing medium. LOL Figs are messy bushes ? It is hard to remember them all. How do you melt marshmallow in the micro? I put a graham cracker, one marshmallow and a pc. of chocolate in there and the marshmallow blew up. I never seen such a mess ! sent the cracker flying and the chocolate was a muddy mess. it was good.
Hahahaaa, yes, I am sure she did. poor kid. wafers, just got off the phone with them. claimed it was put in the mail today. even gave me an invalid tracking # and said i could get shipping back. big deal.Granny girl, did your wafers come in yet? Fighting this flu stuff stinks, it's my daughter's 28th birthday today and I don't even feel up to making her a nice meal or cake. Have not had anything to eat since yesterday and when the thought of a donut sends my stomach a tossing I know I wont be cooking tonight. I was reading thru you and a couple others talking about it being impossible to grow a garden in your dirt. I would be really sad about that, hubby and I plant a large garden every year and in addition to us & the chickens eating out of it fresh and me canning out of it. We also have a veggie roadside stand we sell our extras from. It wouldn't feel like summer without a garden. I would imagine your DD figured out how to cook out of pure necessity, having 6 kids would get very costly to feed otherwise. Like it isn't already, lol.
