Thanks.  She was the top hen so everyone respected her, even the young Orps, but you know how weird they get when they're broody. Could a peck really cause her death? Something about their skulls?  She made it up 3 cinder block steps and a ramp by herself to get back to the nest.  Was pretty thin though, which was why I made sure she ate.

Oh if she was top hen I doubt it was a peck.

rural king. true story. I went looking today and didnt see anything i was interested in. my friend looks up a picture of these guys and says, oh, they are beautiful ! they look chocolate. I said ya, but its a mixed bin and dont want any roos. ( she had me at chocolate). minimum is 6 . so i tell the guy i will take 4 of them. I seem to be stuck on the #4 this yr. any way, the guy grabs one, sticks his finger in the poor chicks butt and says, "this is a girl".

auugh. Gross. I have never heard of such a thing. How old were the poor chicks? Does he think the males have boy parts or something?

I figured there were more, but wasn't sure what was APA accepted. I love the silver pencilled too. You have columbians? Some day I would like to have plymouth rocks that are close to the standard. Someone in northern Calif was breeding the SPs, but I think she stopped so I might have missed my chance.

the partridge rock looks chocolate . I think he was doing a poor attempt at vent sexing. the males do have a little bump inside the cloaca but they are only sexed when first born by very experienced trained personal. they sure dont try and stick their finger in there. they spread it open and push down to make it come out eough to see. You have to be very careful doing this or it can push their insides out. like a prolapse.

Oh duh, you got partridge rocks. I have chicken envy!

The feed store I use is very good at taking care of the chicks. They are kept in brooders in a special room, people can't handle them, and certainly no one pokes their rears!

Next town over got a TSC a few years back. Almost made me cry seeing all the pasty butts.

When I told the store clerks (kids really), they didn't know anything about it. To their credit, they called a few people over and got a quick lesson. I didn't go back to see if they followed through. Hope so. They seemed like they wanted to do the right thing.

Had to stay the night away from home and didn't get back til noon. I thought FOR SURE that I would have chicks, or pips at the very least. Nope. Nada. Just still, quiet eggs. :(

It's only Day 21. It's only Day 21. It's only Day 21. It's only Day 21. It's only Day 21. :fl

Also just realized the humidity had dropped to 50%. :(

I didn't have coffee or eggs for breakfast, and it's totally thrown off my whole day.
