Jane I'm sorry to hear that you had so many losses this summer to an eagle. They are a majestic bird, but that doesn't mean you have to like them when they're killing your flock off one by one.

I lost 2 hens early this summer to a bobcat. Had to lock the girls in their run. Then a week later had a hawk swoop in that got one of my juvenile Icelandic pullet. Luckily my daughter was outside and was able to scare the hawk so that it dropped my bird. Mine now are restricted to a large netted run. They aren't real happy with that after being able to Free range all day. It will be easier when I get new birds that have never had the opportunity to be out. They won't know what there missing

Sure would be nice if there was a way to keep our flocks safe while they were free ranging all day. My poor birds only get to do it in the evening under my supervision. The rooster helps too.

My mom is at her house in VA. She said she was staying there. My sister in Va Beach says she is all battened down. Mike and I are all prepared to spend some time with out electricity.

I am home, right now it is not raining. Brought supplies!

i'm glad it quit raining and you are home..

Danna glad to hear you all are ok.

Roost you could always cover your entire yard in bird netting. That wouldn't stop wild birds from pooping through it and spreading disease.

I'm ready to just take them all inside to live. I'd hate to have that many diapers to change. Lol

Newfie my rooster and one of my hens line up at the front door when it's time to roost. I think what happened was I brought that hen in fir a couple of nights when she was feeling bad and she must've told her roo how nice it was in here. They've been doing that ever since I put her back outside with him. If they wouldn't mess all over the place, I'd let them. I don't think the better half would like sharing the bed with too chickhens though. She's already jealous of me and the hen.

That's exactly the way mine do. When I sit down I have to hand feed my my favorite hen (the one that tries to come in the house every night. ) she's spoiled rotten.
