Hi all. Just got up from a nice nap. I haven't seen anymore from her, but I don't have high hopes. My best bet would be on the coyote. Eagles are extremely rare; we have a river on the property but I just don't think we have the right habitat. I've seen them easy of here circling over the crawfish fields, but that's only been once in five years.

Maybe she'll be waiting to come back in this evening. For weeks I've been running outside everytime I hear the egg song, trying to find the hidden nest. I can't try to just stalk them tomorrow... If she's really gone, then that drops me down to three hens, one being broody. I won't be able to sell eggs from just two layers.

I'm getting short on eggs too. I get 1 each from a chicken and duck. The other 2 are being mama. 1 duck quit laying and the other ducks and chickens aren't old enough.

Camping I sure hope you find her soon. Right now I getting 3 to 4 eggs a day from my four girls. The hen I just bought looks like she's gonna lay every other day. But she is a year and a half old. My other three are still going strong. I'm wondering how they're going to do in the winter. Hopefully my newest hen will go broody and I'll be able to increase my flock. If so ,immature try not to get so attached the the chicks so I can cull if they turn out to be roosters.

I've never added light to my coop, but I might have to try. I just need those pullets to start laying so I can make my decisions. I think think about feeding them all winter for zero eggs.

Not likely. If the EEs don't lay tinted eggs then I'm not keeping them. If my mixed pullets lay eggs that look too close to the sussex, then I'm not keeping them either. I'll just sell them, though. There's a good market for friendly pullets around here.

It's funny how I intended on just getting a few hens for eggs and culling the roosters. Let myself get to attached to them all and had to find homes for two roos. Never thought I'd get attached to chickhens. I'm going to try not to let it happen again. Time will tell.
