Yeah chicki you left to early. All the hens were running around playing last night. No roo in sight. When I got here they were to fast for me to catch by myself. Twist finally showed up and we had to corner them but we finally got all but three back in the hen house. I left at that point. Looks like him and the last three hens kelp the party going for awhile after I left lol.Awww, thank you(and everyone else too!)
Not an option. I'm too young (and stubborn) to lay down and too old to get back up if I did!!!![]()
268 posts behind since last night??? Really??? Wow, read enough to figure out I missed quite a party!!!
And to think I have a package of chicken thighs on the counter thawing out for supper!!!!![]()
I tried to let my so-called hardy northern fowl out of the coop this morning, they took one look at all the "white stuff" on the ground and doubled right back into the coop!!!Later I found them all hiding in the greenhouse. When I went in they all looked at me like it was my fault!
Beautiful scenery camping! Glad your hen seems to be ok. The pox look terrible. Hope they all recover soon.![]()
Morning y'all. It's gorgeous here. Nice and cool.
I didn't get back early enough to lock up the chickens, so they were loose this morning when I let Ben out. He did really well at listening until he found one out by herself, around the corner of the fence where I couldn't see. He chased her back toward me and got his mouth on her just before I got to him. Of course I pulled him off and threw him back, giving her time to get under the fence. And then I let him know how disappointed I was.![]()
Took me forever to find her, but she seems fine. It's the SS hen that's molting so badly right now. A few broken feather shafts, but no bites that I can see. But her few feathers left are all slobbery, so I know he got his teeth on her.

So, I consider that a close call. I just realized that "Ben" is also his retrieve command, so that's not going to work to stop him.![]()
It's fine. We'll figure it out.
Last week I noticed fowl pox in my flock, a couple of the pullets. My hens and roo had it so bad last year, so they should be fine. I'm curious to see how much resistance their offspring have... Pigeon has it the worst, so I've separated her and I'll bring her inside in a minute.

Hers looks like it's trying to turn wet, which is SO much worse. I need to bleach the waterers today. Luckily it will still be hot enough for the sun to help disinfect.

Twist they taught me things last night that blew my mind. It must've been rough being the only roo on here for awhile. ?not over the internet and certainly not where Red can read the answers. Poor boy has enough issues.![]()
This may be a stupid question but do you think that will get her through the molt quicker?Think she has a hangover?![]()
She had twice that many feathers before Ben went after her. Maybe she released them confuse or distract him.
Has anyone else noticed that as we "season" the ground gets farther away when we drop something???
