since they are twiggy full shrubs I am thinking about next to the chicken run. prevailing winds and snow. It would help but also block some views for me.

you wouldn't have to plant them real close together so you could still see some. It looks like the willows like to have there "feet" damp/wet.
 
I bought things that i have already and know do well here. have you seen the dappled willows ? very pretty colors. verigated wigelia too . tri-colored leaves.
 
why are you being so nice and polite tonight Twist. I really did mean the cats ...

besides if I am nice and polite most of the time I get better shock value when I pull something like eating the backs of chicken knees.

yes I looked them up on google when you first said what you got. I unfortunately have no area that needs tree's that like having their feet wet.
 
they dont . my clay cracks very nicely around them. but as an added bonus if i do put them there Flos pond gets dumped every 2-3 days.

that should help them out greatly. Maybe a little rotten chicken poo in bottom of the hole.
