yes they are related to cattle , buffalo and can cross breed with both. Rod one of the renters has worked with cattle. From everything I can find on the internet they are relatively health issue free.

a ruminate is any animal that "re"chews its food by hacking up the grasses it previously grazed/ate. and chewing up again. Usually have more then one stomach or chambers. Most aminals with a split hoof are ruminates like cows, deer and what not. At least that is my understanding.
Hey y'all. Super busy day tomorrow. And I'm starting to get nervous about all the rain that Patricia is bringing. I guess I'm going to stock up on pine shavings for the run and hope for the best.
lol more then one stomach.. they chew the food puke it swallow into another stomach. disgusting creatures.

I hope ya'll find this interesting. These are stones that calcify in the stomach. They start as a sand grain and keep growing if they aren't passed. Virtually unheard of in the midwest. As I understand it, alfalfa hay, which is really our primary feed has too much magnesium? It causes stones to grow? Some vets say it's from feeding on the ground? There is no cause. Some horses get them, some don't. Here's sone of the smaller ones they removed during surgery. They have the oddest smell. Sulphur. you can see the crystals on the side that was growing, then, on the side that was near the stomach wall, it's polished shiny.. Crazy stuff.
