Granny.. go to the thrift store and buy a piece of furniture you like... insulate it with the spray stuff and cover it in foil that retains heat and use chicken wire to protect the chicks from the heating element.. drill holes for ventilation and temperature control. You can do this.. though I wish I were your neighbor... I love a good mcguyver invention.
