of course I didnt write it down but less then a week to go.

Do you trust your reflexes? you can bring them close and see if she tries to eat them....

The couple of times I've tried it with chicks didn't work.  I think they weren't close enough to the 21 days.  They would have killed the chicks if I had left them.  People say to go in at night and try putting them under.  When I tried that, the hen freaked out like a mouse had gone under her.  Maybe if you go out with ducklings in a small box, and she can hear them peeping and see how she reacts.  I think it is very individual. I know someone with a hen who will take chicks without being broody first.

I've put chicks under a broody. It worked like a charm. I also gave her extra chicks from the brooder and she took them too! She was a good one. I lost her to the raccoon.

I saw amerecauna/silky hatching eggs for $5 a dozen. Same lady who sold me the EEs last year. She said they're excellent broodies so I'm thinking of trying a dozen or two for the EHAL.

You go girl, I wish I had space for that....

Oh, and ducks hurt in a different way when they bite. More scraping and pulling pinches rather than pecks. That was according to my mom who had a pet muscovy as a kid. She also had a boxer dog. The duck would grab the boxer by the lips and the dog would swing him around in circles trying to get him off. Nice dog, mean duck!

Ohhh my garsh.... I would be afraid that Oly would disregard her training and eat it.

Papa, any suggestions for clearing this up? My farm friend told me there was a spray but couldn't remember the name of it. I looked yesterday (for the boys) but wasn't sure what to get.

400

Ps: the other nanny kidded, so in a few weeks we're going to get the other doeling. I e got DH convinced (finally) that renting a billy is best for us. I think I'm sensitive to the musk; if I smell it once it sits on the back of my tongue the rest of the day. Don't know if it hits everyone like that. But I can taste it in the cheese, too.
