I had to use a dehumidifier in SC. The few weeks between when I turned the heat in the house off but before I turned the AC on. And then in the fall when I turned the AC off and before I turned on the heat.

that cools the air too ? or makes it feel cooler anyway

The dehumidifier kept the moisture level in the house at a bearable level. If I didn't use it, stuff in the house turned moldy. So, since the moisture level in the house was kept lower, the humidity in the incubator stayed where I needed to stay.

Usualy at hatching time I could get away with filling one little groove on the bottom of the incubator. If I was hatching a full incubator of eggs sometimes I had to take a rag and soak up that little bit of water to keep the windows from condensating.

I read all of these horror stories about membranes drying out and chivks being shrink wrapped and it makes me wonder how it didn't happen to me.

Quote: A dehumidifier works similarly to an air conditioner in that it removes excess moisture from the air to make a home cooler and reduce overall humidity. Unlike an air conditioner, however, a dehumidifier does not blow cool air into a room; it has two coils, a warm and cool one, that work to decrease humidity.

I think you wouldn't want to blow the air directly into you incubator, but to remove extra humidity in the room, I don't think the temp would be affected much.

Thanks for explaining that for granny.

Just copied all that. I don't actually know very much, but am a good researcher!

I've been out playing with the goats ALL DAY. I mucked out the goat side, washed it, and it was holding water. So I took the drill and put about 20 holes in the floor so the water drained. Let that dry and put in fresh hay. In between all that we had MANY excursions through the "pasture" because the goatlings didn't want to go anywhere without me. :love

They've been getting into the chicken side, which is a big problem. We're going to take a scrap of plywood and make a circle in the middle that the chickens can fit through. Think that'll work on the goats? If not then they'll get the stick necklaces like the goats in South Africa. Three sticks tied into a triangle so they couldn't fit through garden fencing.

My boys are smelling very goaty. :/ I've asked a couple of folks about a banding tool, so :fl I can get one soon.

Wow! You must be fighting off super mice! Megan and moved into a trailer right after she came to live with me after my divorce. The trailer had not been lived in for about 10 years, so you know how decrepit it was. We moved in in the fall. The mice moved in right after we did. The invasion was so bad that I didn't have to feed my Australian shepherd for a month, she was catching them and eating them. The only way to keep them out of the food was to keep ALL food in the refrigerator. I trapped and trapped and trapped! Then suddenly they just stopped!

Then spring came, the commercial chicken house behind us cleaned out the hens...... this time we were invaded by rats...... a THAT was s nightmare!

OMG they were right about dog food being like crack I have gotten another 10 since my last post 9 from the same trap
