One of the old men wants me to get poison for the barn. He said the rats are watching him.

Too bad for him I'm not putting poison in the barn. I can't risk something eating the poisoned rats. Guess he forgot the aftermath of the rat baby massacre at the barn the day they toured the grounds.

what was the aftermath?? I really didn't want to go the poison route but I am out of options. Also I did ask the exterminator about carry over with the poison. he said cat's would need to eat 30 or more poisoned mice for any effects BUT there will be an odor as they decompose.

That is odd. I could see if they just kept multiplying over the years but to just show up. Lets see, nothing's changed but you do have yaks now. Any chance that'd make a difference?

I hope the new poison works well for you. maybe ask the boys if they are seeing more then normal. That will tell you if its weather related or not. Or, I could send Binks, He would teach the dogs a new trick. LOL

I just didn't realize how bad until this past weekend. traps and De-con just weren't seeming to keep up I did call the exterminator on Monday. got the bait stations today.

and we did have a very warm snap in the weather a couple weeks ago.

Some breed year round, so the warm spell would allow more to survive. Now they're weaned and hungry! Early 1900s there was a mouse plague in Australia. Old pics show huge mounds of mice poisoned. I actually think mice are cute, but not in my house and not a tidal wave of them. I had pet rats in my classroom. Very sweet critters. Teasel would come to her name like a dog. She lived a long 4 years, and I held her while she died. Can't help it. Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh was my very favorite book back in the dark ages.

I remember that cartoon Disney I think. Well I am seeing all sizes some are even to small to set off the pressure trigger on a snap trap I actually opened the door and it was standing on the trigger. Also have caught a couple BIG HUGE mothers (I hope)

That must be it. Its usually very cold twisteds up way. I too think mice are cute but not in my house. I just can't get passed a rats tail. Although tree rats are cute and tasty.
