Thanks! I've snuck two little tomatoes out of the garden so far. It looks dry but the soil is still moist under the surface. So I'm going to water tomorrow. I'm tempted to put carpet scraps in the garden. Or maybe some burlap? I don't know. I did notice that the cucumbers on one side (north) of the trellis seem to be doing better than the other side (south). So next year I could plant corn on the south side to trellis the cucumbers? I'll try anything once.

is that from the sun ?

I'm guessing. South side faces the pool, wide open skies. North side faces the pond, a stand of trees just about 10 yards away. North side cukes are WAY taller. So maybe getting the right amount of shade. Is that a thing?

I planted tomatoes once in mostly shade. They grew 5ft. !!! too much shade. the limbs will be weak and spindly. wouldnt support the tomatoes. Its a guessing game really. Read on the type you have and look for height max. if its over , too much if its close to being but under should be right.
