yes I have been drooling at some un-cut grassy areas. The hay crop this year is very hit and miss (more miss then hit) I am considering buying a trailer full of alpha to feed to them during the really cold periods we get. Was also considering haying the BIG pasture before turning them out in it. BUT I have never cut that area and have on idea whet might be lurking in the grass to break equipment.

I also tend to suffer from windbreak/ tree row envy

wish did you see my post on how the yaks graze ?? So strange to look where they are and the grass slowly gets shorter or they get taller.

their tongue's actually seem to function like a giraffe's or and elephant's trunk. Bizzare

Must have been sleep-reading for that one.

Do they have black tongues like a giraffe?

Shame not to cut that one field. Doesn't make such good food if it dries before it's cut, does it? Can you walk the parts that look iffy?

Is it hard to get trees established there? for your wind break. Probably have to be watered for the first year. What kind of trees do people use? Homesteaders here put up big lines of eucalyptus. The old stands are huge now.

up here it is mainly what the government promoted after the dirty 30's. Russian olive, Siberian pee tree, box elder, green ash, liliac, Ponderosa pine, some type of spruce, Chinese elm, and American elm, cottonwood. Many of which they "now " consider noxious tree's.

most of the shelter belts up here are getting to the end of their life spans. Instead of replanting them most people are ripping them out and adding that land to they tillable acres. IDIOTS. IMHO

Yes their tongue's are black or grey. Teeth go in a straight line across the front of the mouth

Getting tree's started is a definite challenge. Some go great gang busters and other's hit a state of suspended animation for a time and other just DIE . Mine tend to DIE. partly my fault do to lack of proper weeding/care at the early stages. But I keep running out of time and energy to get to them.

I was trying to write a review on my killer chickens but can't find out how or remember how I did manage the 1 review I wrote. Also they don't actually list Cinnamon Queens separately lumped in as red sex link. which I know they are but I believe a different mix of breeds. After all, all sex-link means is birth sexable nothing more. Their behavior has to be based on parent breed's and combination of such.

Jack London was one of the early promoters of eucalyptus trees. Soon found out that they are so hard to cut and split, not practical for firewood. They grow well here and nothing eats them, so good for windbreaks, but terrible in fires. 200 ft tall flaming torches!

I've never written a review.

Well, I have to get my day started. Much to be done! Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!
