Neither dh nor myself have high blood pressire or chlosterol. Dh is mot overweight. I am but not obese. I cook without using refined sugar & very little refined flour. We eat veggies that we grow. I want to milk goats for milk, yogurt, cheese,& butter. Dh wants to get a Jersey cow to milk also. My arthritis is probably inherited. My mother & 36 yo daughter both have it also.

It is not just that I can't use a lot of electricity it isn't always reliable either.

Way? If you have 2 you have a backup and I Change the bulbs EVERY hatch! After 21 days they are risky!
The electricity not the bulbs. I wouldn't want to have the power stop working.
You can always try! Broodies get off the nest and the heat goes down. How long does your power go off for?
It depends on the weather, not more then a couple hours at most usually around 15 to 30 minutes.
I wouldn't worry about that. If the power goes out wrap the bator in towels or something to keep the heat in. Just keep them handy. We have all faced power outages. At least you will be prepared.
Thanks for all the information. I am definitely going to think seriously on making/getting a bator now.

I need to find someone to take my extra chicks! I have about 30 chick's and 15 on their way. Ducks due to hatch this weekend or beginning of next week. Anconas, I'm excited. If they don't work out, I'm gonna try muscovies. I gotta get something that will eat flies! I've had problems with flies EVERY summer here in OK, since before we had rabbits and chickens!

Flys are horrible in Oklahoma.. Good luck
