A friend of mine had a hen that got stung by a wasp (she watched/saw the wasp/hen interaction so there was no question what it was) and it looked very much like this. I'm not skilled enough to say that's what it is, but definitely looks similar if not the same.
Thank you both, I do feel slightly better. I hope that's all it is, I will look for children's benadryl.Coach723 in another thread suggests 1/2 ml childrens benadryl only. https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/can-you-give-a-chicken-benadryl.579161/
Okay thank you! I really appreciate that!!Poor guy! That doesn't look like it would feel good at all. I just called my friend because she's not part of this group or even online and she said it went away within a couple of days but in the meantime she fed her hen water through an eyedropper so she wouldn't dehydrate because she had beak issues also from swelling. Again though, I'm not a vet so could totally be wrong.
I will definitely make a vet appointment for that. I gagged just poking around on it. I should be able to get in tomorrow. In the last picture it looks like there is some crusty stuff in the feathers around his eye and on his beak from that nare. If that’s the case I’m guessing infection from something. In that instance opening that lump and removing the puss will be necessary.
