No, this is not tissue color change.I believe you would smell infection and it did not look runny, FWIW I agree with others that it may be tissue colour change due to nutrition feed type and balance.
They can yes. Do you see those nice and big round balls?Do birds with this condition continue to lay, typically?
That is some pile of pasty pus.
Before I threw everything away and cleaned up, I found one of the yellow "shells" that was further along its way to becoming an egg, and indeed it looked just like the rotting, soft-shelled eggs I used to often find. Brownish that was darker at one end and mixed with black speckles. Unfortunately I do not have any pictures of that or of the eggs she used to lay. That is some pile of pasty pus.
The quail necropsied this evening had organs that looked healthy to my eye, with the yellow localized membraney-thing being the main yellow in the photos (other than maturing unlaid egg/ovum).
Ah yes, I believe that was the scrunched-up eggshell that I mentioned in the above post. There is zero doubt the above yellow crap is indeed infection.
Below are yolks.

This looks like possible infection too:

This bird was very sick. She is much better off dead. Before I threw everything away and cleaned up, I found one of the yellow "shells" that was further along its way to becoming an egg, and indeed it looked just like the rotting, soft-shelled eggs I used to often find. Now that I have learned this, I very much agree. She must have been suffering for quite awhile -- the soft-shelled rotting eggs had been an occurrence for a long time. This bird was very sick. She is much better off dead.
