Green thumb is itching, anyone else?

I use toilet paper tubes cut in half for seed cups, and after the seed sprouts I transfer it to another cup made from newspaper about 3in tall, and 2-3in in dia. when they are ready for the garden I open the bottom up and put the whole thing in the ground.I have some that I sprouted in my incubator and just this morning put them outside in the sun, 84 degrees in michigan in march, who'd a thunk. I'm usually still ice fishing this time of year. Next week I will start my tomatoes and cukes in the incubator, it works great, always 90 degrees plenty of light.

What neat idea. I never thought of that.

I love that one raised bed at a time thing also. I just can't believe I went from keeping my girls in a run and tractor to letting them roam. Man are they destroying my gardens

One thing about raised beds is you can do one at a time. Not to much work except raking it up and planting the seeds. Then do another the next day.

Since I have the chickens in the back lot they've been working between the beds. I use those white plastic fencing things on some beds and they keep rabbits out and the chickens too if it's something they don't like like cabbage.

The inner garden I just use my weed whacker to go around and clean things up, but then I've probably mentioned that.

Well take care and have a nice day.

I love it Can't get enough of that soylent green
I keep the bugs down with DDT keep with weeds down with straight diesel fuel ... Wait a second .... oh ya, I stopped doing that in 1950. Now I use geneically modified cyborg robots to keep the weeds and bugs down while processing my soylent green... Wait a second ... oh ya, that hasn't happened yet. What were we talking about ...

Don't you get all kind of straw seedlings popping up from the poop?
Are you planting in the ground or in pots? Makes a difference. Potting soil should be okay if a year old IF is still loose and friable, if lumped add to your garden get a fresh bag. If planting into th ground, buy a good top soil. I use tiny seed starting trays and when plants are about 1 in tall move up to 4 in pots. When first true leaves form I move to either ground or into a permanent pot. I live where ground is basically sand, so lots or organic matter is needed to grow a nce garden or bed. Friendly stables provide me with all the free horse poop I can haul off, works better than store bought fertilizers.

One thing I think I discovered is that if you sprinkle plenty of DE around and on your plants on a dry night it help kill the slugs and snails and Lord knows we have more than our fair share here.

Same with catipillars on my squash. Give them a good amount near the base and one the leaves.

Our chickens wiped out the snail population years ago. It is funny to watch them when i find one on a plant I am bringing in, they act like it is an alien-I have to crack the shells before they are willing to give them a taste test

Here's some seed that are starting to sprout that were in my incubator, using toilet tubes for seed cups

tried to edit and add a pic and this didn't work either.

Hay has seeds in it, straw usually not.

I don't worry so much cuz with raised beds you just pull them and toss it to the chickens. I have to say I like your feed thing but may use it to design a grit tube for both types of grit. I hate lugging cans of it to the coop and then they dump the dish.
