So I'm back.

Grandma Nellies Garden Soup. Gotta find that recipe.

Blight resistant tomatoes.

Defiant, Jasper, Mountain Magic, Plum Regal, and Mountain Merit.

Slow Food USA website gotta check that out.

Anyhow I can't buy every magazine and can't subscribe to them all either. But there are some good recipes and information.

Oh and there was an article on Horehound. Does anyone grow that? I've got a bit of a sore throat. I hate to go out since I pick up things easy.

Does anyone map out their garden? or Keep records of each years garden?

Mentally I keep a record of what grew well and what didn't. I just have a hard time with peppers. I have a banana type that I buy plants for and it seems to do well but not the bell type.

Squash really didn't do well last year. Does anyone know how many squash you get per plant? Good garden o' peas, I saw a woman pay $2.68 for a Butternut squash in the store today. They were selling them for $1 this past fall.

Mine are under 2 feet of snow.
Man do I have a lot of work ahead of me. My original border garden should really be completely overhauled. I've neglected it since ive gone crazy with my flock and veggies. I could probably split it in two. I just lack the space for another garden .

I have let mine become over crowded. I could also have several more beds. But that is more work for me in long run.But I do love all my day lilies.

I purchased country gentleman and also ruby queen corn from Burpee. Both packs have 200 seeds in them. I will never use all of them. If you pm me your address I'll send you some.hows 25 seeds each?

Those are narcissus.. Named after the Greek god Narcissus, he loved looking at himself in the mirror, so do these flowers (they resemble the sun and will follow the sun throughout the day).

I am rooting some old time roses for my wifes grandfather. His neighbor has one and we got some cuttings and are rooting for him.Thank God for the spring coming. The weather and flowers get them outside. Since the end of october they have been in and out of hospital. That way they can get more exercise by going outside and build their strength back up.

It's warmer here today and I've uncovered an unused bed. Sis Mary gave me a bag of potatoes that have started to sprout. Should I put them in and cover them with a couple of bags of top soil?

Queen - Sent you my address. I've started another raised be area away from the other two gardens. I didn't do corn last year due to not having an area that it wouldn't sheild other plants from the light.

I'm considering starting a school garden for the school Sis. Mary made Tuscan Potato soup and the kids loved it. Only she didnt' have any Kale, so she used spinach. Plus I have elderly friends that like Collards and Swiss Chard.

Does anyone know if this new colored variety is as good as the green in Swill Chard? I've got to make time to get some more horse manure.

michaelf - are you a guy? Just asking since most everyone on this thing is female and it would be nice to see more guys. My DD 's name is Mikhael and we pronounce it michael, that's why I'm asking.

Anyhow I read an article years ago about someone who was rescueing old varieties of roses from falling down farm houses. Your question made me think of it again. I once has the cops stop and ask me what I was doing digging up hosta from in front of an abandoned house.

They were nice enough and told me to be careful as the house was in the city and not a nice neighborhood.

Do you know what kind of roses they are? I have some from our old house that I grew from cuttings. My neighbor said her husband planted them 40 years ago then so now they'd be 50 years ago.

I thought about the school garden idea as well. Our son is in Head Start and a lot of those kids are underprivileged.. I think it would be so fun for them to learn about things like vegetables, fruit and eggs from their own garden. But... a lot of these kids are also badly behaved. We only live a few minutes away from the school though.
