Green thumb is itching, anyone else?

has anyone saved Gourd seeds? I had two and cut them open and scrapped out the seeds. Can I plant these? Or do I have to buy new seeds? They are on paper towels to dry.

Are gourds good for anything other than decorations? Where did the term "out of his gourd come from"?

Yes you can plant them. Most gourds are not edible even to animals they are very bitter. Luffa's are when young, there may be others but that is the only one I am aware of.

Congratulations on your hatch, Rancher! Twenty two is good.

Definitely hardware cloth would be needed on a hoop coop in my area. Floor on the coop area too so nothing digs in. Coyotes, ya know. Except the times the couger is around.

But the greenhouse it would make - whoo hoo.

We shall see how it goes after the house projects are done.

For some reason, I get tired faster than 20 years ago. Haven't quite figured that one out yet.

Must need stronger coffee in the morning. Gounds are great compost too.

Hi everyone, I've been feeling a little green lately so I thought I would post... I have been looking at house plants a lot lately since I know I won't be able to have a garden this year(no help & can't do it myself). I have bought a few but really like doing starts so I posted on CL in hopes that someone local has some plats I can buy some starts off of. Anyone else have house plants?

Had nice enough weather this past week to plant the onions and English peas, lettuce, carrots, beets, radish and spinach. Will set out a few cabbage and broccolli today. The rest of the plants are still in the hot tub room ...windows on three sides and lots of humidity. Romaine and Red sails lettuce still need a little more growth before going out . Tomatos will go out in April here because of late freezes.
Potatoes are cut and ready to plant the middle of March.
Today, I'll cut back the asparagus fronds and lay on some compost to the top of the beds.
We are still pulling turnips and cutting collards from the fall garden..

Hi folks haven't been on in a while. Hope everyone is great. does anyone grow blueberries in containers. Did 2 last year;dragged them into the garage with wrapped burlap. well this morning I couldn't stand it any longer so I dragged them back out. OH my they are covered in beautiful buds. Now to keep my girls off them.

I planted some onions (more to go), will cut potato's to dry tonight. I have some other bean plants taht could go out but I worry about a late frost or snow....

Do the potato's have to have eyes before you cut them or can you just cut them and plant them? Some of the potato's in my tater bin have started to get teeny tiny eyes ( you almost have to have a magnifying glass to see them ) and I was just wandering if I could plant them like that or do I have to wait till the eyes get bigger. If I have to wait till they get bigger is their a way to make them do it faster?

We covered our one raised bed that we have planted with a makeshift greenhouse, and the seeds inside are starting to sprout! The other day, I pulled back the plastic just to see if it was doing it's job, and a wave of warmth came out from beneath it! It was really nice.

In that bed, I have recently planted some snow peas, kale, bok choy, green onions, radishes, and brussel sprouts. The green onions, snow peas, and brussel sprouts are starting to sprout. There is a 6-pack of soybeans on the other side, and they are doing well also. I also have a small planter of cilantro that I stuck under there, and it's also doing really well. In fact, it's doing REALLY well! I may actually have a usable handful of cilantro from that planter within the next week or so.

I have decided that by next year, I will have a decent greenhouse to help me through these times when I'm itching to get out and plant but the season says I have to wait!

It took almost two days, but I finaly planted my onion sets. I have snow peas and beets ready to come out of the greenhouse, but plan on taking a gardening break for a few days. My chicks, ducklings and turkeys should arrive tomorrow, and I want some bonding time. I have three brooders set up, and am trying to find room for a fourth, as I also have a incubator full of eggs :/ , due to hatch in five days.
