Green thumb is itching, anyone else?

I got thornless blackberry bushes, blueberry bushes, raspberries, strawberries, eggplant, tomatoes (roma, big beef, beefsteak, yellow pear, black krim, brandywine), cukes (pickling, and burpless), peppers (red, green, sweet banana, jalapeno, and some other hot variety whose name escapes me at the moment), sugar snap peas, green beans, yellow squash, and potatoes planted. Most were transplants that went into the raised beds this weekend, thanks to the untiring help from my 12-yo DD. Just want to add zucchini, and still need to transplant the sugar baby watermelons. First time in a long time I have had a garden and am sooooo looking forward to our own fresh veggies. We also have a great selection of herbs that will stay in rectangular window box type planters that we got at a steal from Lowe's and the end of last season. I want to be able to bring them in and put them in a window so they will be available all year.

We built an arbor forthe kiwi and put the tomatoes and eggplant out to harden off. It was 84 degrees today, so I will plant them tomorrow... It's hard to believe we had a late frost just a few nights ago!

I am almost finished with my movable chicken run. It's a 4x6 hoop frame with a cedar base. I designed it to fit over our raised beds. The chicks are six weeks old...I'd better got moving on that coop!

Thanks for the post. I totally forgot about the orange watermelon I purchased from Burpee. Where the heck I'm I going to put them. I have to get my zucchini in also. I have a huge wisteria in my front yard on the fence. 25 years old. I was thinking about putting the squash there and letting it go. What does everyone think? Happy planting everyone

Good morning all; I guess everyone has been very busy with garden/flock.. I broke my finger a couple of days ago (slammed it in the garage door) and it has been slowing me down to ever since. Have to tie up my peppers and eggplants and haven't.I did get to pick a great salad last night , first one for the season. Its a pain trying to wash it though since my finger is in a splint and I can't get it wet.

Been very busy! All of my loose leaf lettuce bolted and tastes terrible, so I'm jealous of your salad! And the ground squirrels have been as busy as me. One got in and ate most of my bush bean sprouts right to the ground. Ugh! The lettuce and beans are my two favorite garden items.

how can I get weeds to stop growing with out chemicals?
Cider vinegar is quick acting on small broadleaf weeds.
I pull weeds and grass and lay it in the paths or beside the beds to dry and then use it for mulch if there are no seeds. Everything else goes on the compost heap.
I also mulch with straw hay.
Reducing the light exposure for weed seeds helps to keep them from germinating.

Yummy!

My peas are just starting to flower
