Green thumb is itching, anyone else?

Super hots? I've gotten one pepper so far. I did break down and use some Miracle grow and I'm seeing some flowers now but Lord only knows if it's to late.

The cukes are doing good but the squash is not. Something is killing in the flowers. I will use some Sevin dust today and sprayed them yesterday with an organic spray. Beans are good too.

Now I noticed to ripening tomatoes last evening but upon further examination the bottoms were rotted out. Anyone know what causes that? I do water everyday since it's so dry. Perhaps I should lighten up on the tomatoes. There are lots of tomatoes on the vines.

I hate to wait til things look a little wilted to water.

Sounds like your tomatoes have Blossom end rot. caused from irregular watering and lack of calcium. check out this link for some help

I have habanero and ghost peppers. Not much fruit on any of them because of the dry season. Had plenty of blossoms, they just never set any fruit this year.
Last year I had so many peppers that I started drying them then chopped them for pizza topping.

Thanks. So far it's just the Amish paste. Though I've a sneaking suspicion two of the plants are NOT amish paste as told.

My black cherries are find.

Now my Green hubbard was doing good but something is destroying the flowers and I've had on plant of another kind of squash die and it's sister plant has a split in the base vine.

I love my garden! This years season isn't even over and i am already planning what to plant where next year! Something has killed my squash plants already. I think it is some kind of worm that burrowed into the plant and hollowed it out...Its a shame, i was really enjoying the fresh summer squash and the few spaghetti squash i had gotten.

I'm so disgusted. The peppers are crap with buds but now peppers.

The squash are hanging on. I Sevined them today again. Some have died. Not sure about the worm thing but I've seen beetles in the flowers and the flowers of some have died.

The cukes are ok but look weak. I got two paste tomatoes and some black cherry that DW says are real good. Bean ok too, but I hate beans.

Pulled the last of the lettuce and planted some more. Swiss chard is doing great and the herbs too. Okra not so far along.

I water everyday too. I may just pull the pepper plants and cover over the beds with horse manure and dream of next year.

More likely it is not a worm but rather the larvae state of the squash vine borer.rotate your crops next year and make sure you till the soil rather deep in that area. Also planting squash later can help depending when the eggs are payed.

sorry to hear your having such a terrible year with your garden.i know how much we look forward to it. I think you should till one of your beds and plant some peas now or in a week. Ian waiting til the end of the month since I'm so much further south.

I went to the NJ state fair on Tuesday with some BYC friends and I have to say it can't hold a candle to the NY fair in Syracuse. I think next year I have to set aside time to head up to it.

Blossom End Rot in tomatoes is nearly always from lack of calcium. You can give them gypsum or dissolve egg shells in vinegar and use the resulting liquid 2 TBSP to the gallon of water on and around the plants. Just put a bunch of dried egg shells in a jar, pour in the vinegar, and wait a week. Strain out what eggshells are left and there you have water soluble calcium.

Since it's only one variety that's doing that, well, you know what not to grow next year, huh?

The tunneling in squash vines is indeed Squash Vine Borers. Once they're in there, there isn't a lot you can do. What I do, is bury the vines every few feet to try to get them to make roots everywhere. That way when the borer kills the original part, the rest keeps growing. The alternative is to pack poison around the vines where they come out of the ground and I'm not doing that.
