Greetings from a new member!

My region seems to be lacking chicken breeders as far as I know. I’d like to research the demand more. Think I’d be able to do that on this forum (the only reason it took me so long to become a member is because of my online social anxiety - so this is my first experience with this kind of website)?

You can also check your states thread here in the site to see what breed's might be more in demand for your area.

Lauren, welcome home to BYC, I had Easter Eggers last year and was amazed and how consistently they lay those light blue eggs. I think by Devereux growing up with the other three girls, he will make a wonderful rooster for you. Thanks for the pictures and if you decide later on to hatch out some, get with these folks first about what type/brand of incubator and techniques on hatching. Good luck and hope to hear from you soon...

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
The only reason I didn’t order a rooster to begin with was because I wanted to start very small to get my feet wet (after dreaming of a backyard flock for so long, I want to ensure I am a great steward of them, and thought it best to start small), and read that a rooster requires at least 10 hens. So far so good with Devereaux. He is SUPER kind and sweet.
He doesn't need 10 hens. That oft quoted number is for a rooster's ability to keep all hens in his harem fertile. Many people keep them in pairs or trios. A rooster will, however, have his favorites and they will show more signs of wear.
You are very close to my area. About an hour away. I agree that the Ithaca area isn't really big on chicken breeders. Too artsy an area. And more into wine making!
Be careful adding bantams to your LF flock. That might not go well at all. If you have a lot of space, you might be okay. Good luck.

I’m hoping that they’ll get along with my LF flock, but I do have a lot of space if not.
