She doesn't have much coat. Were her parents that short haired? I know many take 2 years to get that big Aussie coat. Pepper had short hair until about 2 years than she poofed out. Definitely makes her easier to groom. Should be interesting to see when she gets her winter coat this fall. You probably don't have tumbleweeds of hair everywhere.

Sometimes there's medical reasons. My last Aussie was a diabetic and it made it easier to give her shots. Otherwise I couldn't tell when the needle was in.
oh I wasn't saying this to any specific person 😅 I just opened the thread and posted. too many dogs I see who are double coated getting shaved, especially in the summer and I feel so bad for them because I know it makes the heat worse since they're shaved

Actually in my experiences it does make the dog cooler. Heat can just escape instead of being trapped against the skin.

It is important to keep double coated breeds brushed out so the coat can work as intended. Shaving does seem to eventually change the coat. The older the dog the more like a there will be problems as older dogs often have other endocrine problems going on and the coat growth isn't something they put as much energy into.

And I know you probably weren't talking to me. I just like talking dogs. :)

Biggest redflag grooming thing I see is people shaving double coated dogs. gives me the ick!
X2, and it ruins there hair when it grows back.

I understand if there us health or reasons it has to be done, I just mean for people who just do it to make it easier to groom or make them cooler ect

Actually that pic makes it look much shorter than it really is, her mane is around 3-4 inches and the rest of her body is about 2 inches besides her feathering. She’s being paired with a stud of better coat type this month and I plan on keeping a daughter so we’ll see what improvements I get.
