Growing fodder for chickens

That is what I am doing. Using a sprouting jar to soak them over night. I thought about sprouting the wheat in the jar as well, as this is how I do alfalfa and mung beans. But I using the tray method as the original poster had suggested. I am starting to get sproutage and some greenery too. But if it doesn't turn out like I think it should, I may use the sprouting jars. Good luck with your sprouting!!

Oh, and my 50# bag of wheat only cost somewhere around $12 dollars. So pretty cheap feed.
Yeah, I think it is $15. here. This will be great! should be good for egg sales, too.

I started doing this for my duck flock a couple of weeks ago and they are very enthusiastic about the wheat sprouts and fodder. Sometimes I don't wait for it to fill in as much - I like giving it when the blades are 2.5 to 3 inches high. I have not crunched numbers much, using a little over a cup of dry seeds per batch for 13 ducks.

Simple setup, works for me. I used my Dremel to make the drain and air holes.

I love this! So simple. No racks. Thank you for sharing.

Where can you buy the grain? Doing web searches, I'm getting nothing. My hubby is an otr trucker so I'm trying to do price comparison because if it's cheaper in another state than it is here, he can just pick it up for me. But I can't find it listed at tsc, Walmart or any other store that's local to me.

Once the seeds are soaked they are bigger, I used tiny holes and slits with a thin knife. My seeds are sprouting nicely. Just empty the bottom
Tray that catches the water after you rinse them each time.

I would look up verify won't hurt them, then just try it if not toxic. Remember tho fodder is only supplement to regular food like a treat

I buy mine bulk at a local mom n pop health food store.

There is also a resiliency group that makes bulk purchases.

Any Amish bulk food stores you know of?

Some grain mills or feed stores may have it.
