Grown up duck or duckling?? Where to begin the duck adventure?

Well geeze, I'm not sure what was edited, but I am REALLY hoping I spelled everything right! The d and the f are right next to each other and I AM a horrible typer. So if I made that error i truly appologize and thank whoever fixed it!

Yes we are a military family. Crossing our fingers they do not transfer DH before he retires in less than 2 years!

I told DH all about the imprinting and he is very excited. So we will be getting babies if we are able to get ducks! Yay! Thank you again for all of your imput.

We started off with 2 ducks, but I'd suggest 3 as if something were to happen to one, the other two still have each other. If you only had 2, and one died or had to be taken away for some reason, the other duck would be lonely and ducks and chickens don't usually 'clique' the way they do with their own species. I would REALLY not suggest only getting 1 duck. You're just asking for trouble with just one. You'd have one depressed, lonely duck.

For quiet ducks I've always liked my Muscovies. They don't make much of a noise above a whisper. And as for gender, if you only have a small number of waterfowl, I'd always go with females. Males can fight and sometimes they will try to mate chickens (and tend to kill them in the process). If you do get a male, get him a few females too.

Males are quieter and if you get them very young they learn to rely on you. I have had good luck with adults also though. If you want a silent duck get a muscovy as a duckling because allot of times they turn mean I've heard if they have not been messed with (they get huge). If you are just wanting pets have you thought of call ducks? Keep in mind ducks are very messy and medicated chicken feed can kill them. There is allot to consider with ducks but if you do research they by far are my favorite.

I started my duck adventure a few weeks ago with adult ducks. It is ending tomorrow. Someone is coming to pick up the last four. Those things... I just don't have the right place for them. They are too messy for a smaller pen. Make sure you have a big place for them, so their poop can be spread out and they can play more. I didn't, and now they are leaving tomorrow. They will be happier in their new home at least. Maybe if I set up a nice place I can try again later.

mine only quack at night if i let the dog out and she scares them or if they get spooked and the noise thing is purely a breed thing some breeds are louder than others

I would just caution that call ducks are LOUD! In fact sometimes louder than some roosters, so keep that in mind...
