Aloha all. I am new to these blog forums so please bear with me if I do this wrong.
I have been keeping chickens for the last 3 years on the big island of hawaii, one of my Orpington hen’s has developed this growth on her crest, she seems happy in all other aspects, eating fine, laying and the other hens don’t avoid or attack her. Is it a problem?
It’s really challenging to find a vet here, so few deal with anything other than cats or dogs, my local vet is only open 2 days a week, so any advice would be greatly appreciated

Ahh my vet has just texted me. She says it’s a kind or wort and they will remove under anesthesia.

Welcome To BYC

Looks like it could be a growth from an old injury.

Since she's not bothered by it, seems to be active and happy and her flock is not messing with it, for me, I'd be inclined to leave the comb alone and see if it continues to grow or eventually dries up and falls off on its own.

It's curious for sure, but sometimes things are best left alone unless a bird shows signs of illness.

My 2¢
