Thanks for the info.

That would make me feel safer anyways just in case someone did hack that they couldn't steal as much. I'm always worried about someone stealing the cc number and going crazy leaving us with nothing until it gets fixed and the money put back in the account. Esp. since a company once stole $500 from my parent's bank account and it took a month to get it back.

Debi is right about this, I also get loads of these mails, but funny thing is they come through on a different mail account that is not the one I use for Paypal.

Never answer them and even if you get a mail that looks really genuine, still log in through a separate browser.

I attended a conference once and they listed all our mail addresses, then they sent it to all the libraries in Africa, I get loads of trash on that account I just never open them. This is how they scam you into giving them the info for your account.

It is really hard to get anybody to deal with these issues, but it is time someone did these people are a menace.

I hope you stay safe. I also use a pay as you go credit card just in case anyone does ever hack my account. I never leave much on there.

I got hacked last month for $300. It came totally out of the blue for me since I rarely use my paypal account and I always report spoof emails from them. I have learned to never follow any links, not even from people I know so it is still a mystery how this person got into my account. The only thing plausible was a donation I made to our local humane society in my mother's name. They had several people at the organization steal sensitive information before quitting. Paypal was really great about it though and the money was returned to me within 10 days.

NOTE: The URL in the original email was a Phishing attempt and was triggering my virus / scam alert on my PC.

Before you EVER click on a link make sure it goes to the intented address. Never enter your personal information unless you are 100000% sure the link you are visiting is legit and secure.

Example: the link posted earlier was in the form of:

somedomain.com/www.paypal.com/page.html

Very sneaky, but NOT legit.

I've also seen stuff like: paypal.somedomain.com, again NOT LEGIT!

Be careful out there.

this is why i closed my paypal acct and closed the checking acct it went through.. when and if i open another paypal acct. i will have a totally seperate acct in the bank for it...with only a little money in it at a time...not even sure i want to open another pay pal acct...but that seems to be the only way to buy things online today....eggs...etc...

Thank you Nifty. Again, I apologize for putting the exact link, I hadn't meant for others to get caught in it, just trying to help educate others so they don't do the same thing I did. I should have changed the main domain like you did, just to show how they do it. Again, thanks, and sorry everyone!
