GRRR so mad someone added their chickens to my flock

Apparently your stellar chicken reputation precedes you. You are known for raising a healthy flock so they figured they were bringing them to the right place. I can't believe anyone would do that. I'm dumbfounded.

Well I just spent $50 bucks at the feed store for these "free" chickens. I got blue kote for the hen with the hole in her back and Pour on ivermectin for the mites/lice and possible/ probable worms. They feel really fat/heavy? Compaired to my hens. I feed an 18% feed plus veggies and fruits and they are allowed to free range plus scratch on cold cold days. Anyone heard of tea tree oil for leg mites? I use it in my sons hair and someone at the feed store said to rub it on their legs

Vegetable oil is fine by itself to smother the leg mites for immediate relief and the pour on will make sure they are gone. I don't use the tea tree oil as I read on here it is not good for them. I don't know if it is or not but it is not needed as the oil by itself will smother them so I figure why risk it. If they have bad crusty stuff on the legs let me know and I can tell you how to deal with that. Good luck!

Tea Tree oil is NOT cheap....vegetable oil is. (Comparitively) I think that people have used Tea Tree Oil cuz it has natural anticeptic properties. Since Tea tree oil kills the mites the same way Veggie oil or vasoline does, by smothering them, I don't see the advantage to the extra expense of tea tree oil.

Tea tree oil is also highly toxic if ingested in even the smallest quantities. I would not use it around any small animals. Period.

If you have Tea Tree Oil already... maybe you could dilute it and apply it along with the veggie oil. As I'm sure you are aware, it is a highly concentrated essential oil... and I bet just a tiny bit of it will do a great job repelling those little mites. I love Tea Tree Oil... I think it has a really nice clean smell

Oh my goodness
That's awful
Do u live on a farm

Not that it makes it okay..but iam thinking if I come home and have more chickens then what are mine..I too would flip

How rude

That means they walked into your private property

I would set up a web cam now

They did it once..they might just be back

The nerve.....

I had a family member who lived next to a highway. He started out with a trio of geese one year as an experiment. By the end of that year he had over 30 domesticated geese in his pen. He said every few weeks a new pair or trio would show up in his pen- Toulouses, Chinese, Africans... so not wild geese that were migrating through. It was a great year at the holidays that year. Christmas geese for everyone! Delicious!

Wow Crazy.... on a plus you got more chickens but a huge inconvenience because your flock was healthy and now you have to deal with these issues. And Hopefully they don't have any other underlying conditions. I really feel for you and the rest of your flock. It does really sound like someone knows when you come and go. Maybe a little too much.

I have placed a lock on my run and Barn, I will tell you why....people round here been dumping animals left and right, and then someone tried to give me 19 chickens and I refused them because they were really ill and they were not really forthcoming about their condition until pressed about it, last month I found out 2 more farms in my immediate area that have chickens and rabbits have a bad outbreak of something in the respiratory and Cocci department. I was afraid that since we live on a farm and that most people in the community know that I provide care to my animals and I also have hens and rabbits that they would be tempted to drop them off because they couldn't care for them. And the last thing I need is sick animals making my healthy flock Ill with something. I also have motion detector lights at the entrances and the dogs pen is near by so they will bark if anything comes too close.

Just 3 days ago I came home and found a box on my doorstep, inside I found 2 guinea pigs and tons of blankets to keep them warm, It was nearly -20 out funny enough my neighbour was in his shed and saw someone pull up in my driveway and when I asked him he had seen anything he gave me the vehicle description and I knew exactly who this person was.

I ended up bring the guinea pigs back to him and told him next time he should try asking, and if he couldn't take care of them to put an add out on our pet rescue site in town. He was a bit peeved and I told him that because of the way he did it I was letting the rescue centre know that he just dumped them on my doorstep. He gave them up to the rescue centre the next day, But man, do people just not think about the consequences before they act??

I would have loved to keep the guinea pigs don't get me wrong, but I got males and these were intact females, beautiful as can be, but it was more about the lesson learned and the fact I have 37 animals.
