GRRR so mad someone added their chickens to my flock

I just...wow...geez...no words! What the hell people? I just don't understand dumping animals. I just.don't.get.it. There are so many ways to get rid of them without *dumping* them on unsuspecting folks, or worse, just leaving them out to die!

and that is why I feel for the OP, now she had to go and spend the money to go treating not only these chickens but her own healthy flock. Yes, she could take it as a compliment that she takes good care of her animals but still, not fair for the OP at all!!

Yea I guess people just ASSUME that since you already have some why not a few more. I am sorry but my girls even though they have a job are spoiled. I am a single mom so the fact thaqt someone knows my schedule is creepy. Or maybe a neighbor told them oh so and so has chickens.... And while my house isnt a "farm" it does sit on 5 acres that i garden and let the hens roam on.The front of the property is not fenced the coops are in the side pasture for now until i get the new coop built then they will be in the back part of the property. So right now the coops are in full view of anyone driving by. And although the coops have their own individual runs, the older hens are allowed to roam. I figured since I will need to treat everyone anyway I left them in the coop. I did seperate the one witht he gash in her back and left her in the big dog crate and put her in the garage. I sprayed it with blue kote(note to self make sure its not windy next time, I have little purple flecs on my hands.) She also seems to have the worst legs, they are really knarly looking, she also has spurs? her legs look bubbly almost because all the scales are raised. thank you all for letting me vent and giving feedback. I have never really had to deal with sickness to this extent. I had a short bout with mites last year but caught it early and it never caused issues. Any thoughts on them being heavier/fatter than my hens? Could it just be they were fed a bad diet?

Yeah, that would creep me out as well...I'm a very private person when it comes to my home & land. It is my refuge. It's where I go when the rest of the world gets on my nerves!
Sorry that you have to go through this & having to treat your whole flock. Hopefully some good will come of this--more eggs or some chickens for supper?
Good luck

I wonder if it's someone you know. At least it wasn't a dog, cat, lizard, snake........ Lavendar essential oil is also an antiseptic. I don't know if it's toxic to chickens or not. If it's not then you can add a couple of drops to veggie oil. The smell won't be as strong as the Tea Tree oil.

Oh, I hope all your girls (new and old) are vigorous and in top shape in no time. What a crappy thing for someone to do!

Of all the things you said the worst part is the one I highlighted.....even though I am married and have 6 dogs and live in a pretty low key area that would bother me the most.

I just hope all goes well and that you can heal up those chickens and treat yours with no further issues. keep us posted on progress.

Try opening your garage door and finding a mama cat and two kittens !! They were obviously not barn cats. They were friendly and beautiful.
I had mama spayed and the boys neutered. Within a weeks time one of the boys ran between my draft horse and was killed.
For a year the mama and son were my barn cats with a heated pad in a dog house in the garage.
Well, need I say more, it is very cold up here in NE WI so I now have two new house cats.
I couldn't bring them in sooner because I had a older cat that was declawed on all four feet. It wouldn't have been fair to him. He has since passed.
Now I am really attached to these two and am afraid when the weather gets nice out that they will want to go out. They really do enjoy harassing the chickens and just being cats but I'm afraid there life won't be as long as a totally inside cats will. But .................... ????????????
If someone wouldn't have dropped them off I wouldn't have to worry about this. Our shelter is full of cats and kittens since not many up here spay or neuter !!! Don't get me started on that one !!
The elderly lady that lived here before us was a real animal lover as well so someone may have thought they were delivering them to her or my neighbors spread the word that I was a softy !!
That bothers me as well that people know when you are coming or going.
The elderly lady lived alone here after her husband died and someone came and picked all of the apples from her apple trees when she was at church !!! Talk about having guts !!!
Hope all goes well. Poor girls. Sounds like they were either living on scratch grains or corn if they are overweight.
You soulnd like a very caring good chicken Mom and the word got out !! Or could have been a prank. Someone on here about a year ago had some chickens dropped off by some teenage boys that knew her daughter. They thought it was funny !!!! Yeah Right !!!

Wow i would also be freaked out. Maybe they thought you would not notice ? I use Vaseline on my hens legs. Treat them for mites and remember to retreat in 7-10 days. Also never hurts to worm them. I have used pumpkin seeds for my girls. Also after worming i give them yogurt or cottage cheese as a treat. When I sell hens or chicks. I always show them they are mite and lice free. Then i show them how to look , where to look and how to treat if they do ever get any pests. Maybe i go into to much detail and give to much info. But people think you just feed and water and get eggs. They don't really think there is more to that to care for chickens. They don't realize the work and then just dump them off.
