guess what i found in my chick cage this morning...

Black snakes are very territorial; it'll come back if you let it live, unless you re-locate it a couple of counties away. Sorry for your loss!! I've lost 2 baby chicks to black snakes when they were out of their coop.

we took it about a 1/2 mile away. it'll have to cross a dirt path,a swampy area,2 streets ,a 6 lane RR tracks and a wide parking lot to get back to the back yard. i suspect that'll be too much like work ...lol

I have been beheading every rat snake I find....three since Saturday. One in a duck pen "trying" to get some duck eggs under a broody duck, another was trying to get into a pen, another in the coturnix pen, ANOTHER engulfed two pairs of button quail. Oh that is FOUR...but man, tis the season for snakes and I feel like Buffy the snake slayer at the moment with my hedge clippers!

There was a thread recently about how "hazing" a snake and relocating it is showing promise as a way of deterring snakes from your coops. I have been relocating snakes for years, usually no more than an acre or two from the houose, and I find that it works for me.
