Hi all! My guinea hen, Nellie, has been having issues for a while. Her breathing is wheezy, and every once and a while she shakes her head and sneezes. If she gets worked up (gets picked up, runs, etc.) then her breathing gets worse to the point where she may sit down and puff up a little to get some more air in, and might close her eyes. I've been treating her naturally recently and she definitely showed improvement, but now she is regressing a bit. She does eat, but is super lightweight and skinny... Right now I separate her from the flock with her buddy Tommy for half the day to treat her. I'll try to get a video soon.

My question is, what do I give her??

I don't know a lot about Guineas, so will tag in @R2elk and @Sydney65

How old is she?
Any lice/mites?
Is her crop emptying?

Being wheezy can be from a number of things. Do you keep them in a coop/run? How's the ventilation, any heavy ammonia odors?
Have you added any new bedding that may have been moldy or extremely dusty?

Breathing worse if she's stressed or picked up - does she have any bloat or feeling of fluid in the abdomen below the vent between her legs? Any problems with laying eggs?

Any signs of watery or bubbles in the eyes, mucous from the nostrils, coughing, sneezing? Her nostrils clear of debris?

How have you been treating her, what has worked?

My understanding is that Guineas are fairly hardly, but there's a few respiratory diseases that they can have. Mycoplasma is one, but normally you would see other symptoms besides just sneezing.

Thanks for the reply! She is 1 year old, has no lices/mites, and her crop is emptying.

The coop gets a little dusty sometimes, but is okay. No major ammonia and pretty good ventilation. None of the others are like this so I think it may be an underlying disease rather than environmental.

Nope.

I don't think so with the fluid and swelling, but I'll check later. She hasn't laid eggs since the start of her illness.

No mucus or wateriness, and I think her nostrils are clear. She does do a sneezing thing and shakes her head sometimes.

I've been giving her oregano powder in her feed, and have been alternating with garlic and some other dried herbs as well as ACV in her water. She has shown significant improvement with this, but has now been regressing as of a couple days ago.

Okay, thank you again!
