Guinea talk.

This one may be better. The first one I sent keeps reverting back to a vegetable slicing machine. Let me know how it works on your end. Thanks!

Both of the videos worked fine. I can't believe how big Henry's horn is on top of his head. I call it a horn but I know there is name for it and I can't remember. You have a 4 plex going there with all the cages. That looks good and then if you want to isolate some you can just close the door.

I love the little voices the guineas make when their young. I noticed that Spider never shuts up and Mary is pretty quiet. Spider has a honking noise that he makes now. He still has that machine gun voice when he gets excited. Has yours started that yet? You may have to wear earplugs when you visit the coop when they start.

Good luck with their free ranging I'm sure they will do great. Let me know how they do .

Happy Saturday to you too and have a great 4th of July.

p.s. thanks for posting the videos they are getting big. They still have their little baby stripes I love those stripes.

This was the 6 week old video. I am trying to figure out how to link to YouTube.
The crates are a great set up. Henry is a great looking bird. No doubt he should get first pick in pairing off. Though I suspect yours have already done that. My babies are much younger (2wks) but the oldest babies (7wks) are already practicing their calls. Its adorable. I love the tiger stripes too but I am a weirdo I think adult guineas are cute as can be too. Im sharing pics of a few of mine.

Charid your guineas are so cute. I love the pic of the one with their legs stretched out sleeping. I remember seeing that when mine were young I thought I had already lost one. How many guineas do you have?

Thanks so much for sharing the pics and have a nice weekend.

Thank you. I love how they sleep but yes very startling when you first see it. Sometimes they would be so still I had to shake the box just to be sure. Lol.

Right now I am down to 18, lost 6 to some raccoons. It was a very sad day for me. I am too emotionally bonded with my birds. I need to detach.

Have a great weekend too.

I'm sorry about your loss of the 6 guineas. It's easy to become emotionally attached to them I can't really think of a way to not be.

I threw some spagetti out for the ducks, chickens and guineas a while ago. I saw Spider my guinea pick up a piece and call for Mary Jane to come and eat it. He sounded like one of the roosters calling to the hens. I've never seen him do that before. I think he is becoming a gentleman.

I don't know if that is a guinea trait or he picked it up from the rooster.

Oh wow. Is she laying then? My most aggressive paired male would chase the other birds away until him and his laying hen had eatten first. Its amazing. When her mate was picked off first she called and called for him and would walk to the end of my drive and call some more. It was incredibly difficult to watch. Those are the eggs I had to save. The coon got the rest. Them coons were never a problem until one day they decided they weren't happy with scavenging scraps. I had an apron, tin roof, heavy door with a latch. Not possible for them to get in and yet the baby coon got in. Then the mom and sibling.

I didnt know they would eat spaghetti. I was going to get some crickets and grasshoppers tomorrow. Which got me to thinking yesterday, where did grasshoppers go to these days?? Off topic but really they are all gone...now got to buy them.

Mary Jane is not laying yet I hope she waits until spring. That is the first thing the spaghetti that I have gotten them to eat besides the game bird and boiled eggs. My ducks and chickens love spaghetti and I always throw them some out when I make to much. They seem to be picky eatters the guineas.

I haven't seen a grasshopper in a couple of years. I don't know what happened to them all. My guineas would probably run from them.

That is sad that your guinea lost her mate. I know they have feelings to just like we do. I hope the eggs hatch that you saved.

Thank you. All but 1 of the eggs hatched. Those are the little ones I have now. I wish I had grabbed more of the eggs but something had beat me to the nest so I just grabbed the ones that were in a pile. The rest were scattered and scratched. Really should have grabbed them all. Hindsight is 20/20 though. They are doing well. One had an eye defect but is going to survive it. He just got hurt this afternoon though when his brother ran over him. Seems minor but its hard to know until a few days of observation later.

Thats great that you hatched all but one egg. You never know the others might not have been any good at all.

I hope your little handicapped keet is ok. It seems like mother nature is pretty harsh on the little ones. Let me know how he does.
