We didn't get the storm last night it must have passed us by. That is so funny about the guineas running togeather. They are characters aren't they? I think their creatures of habit when they come in the first time that broke up their pattern of going in later on and totally confused them. I'm glad you got them in before the big storm hit. When it rains here Spider and Mary Jane pace at the back door and want to come inside. I wish they would go to the coop to get out of the rain but they don't want to do that.

Mine freerange 12 hours too. The chickens go in around 7 and the guineas want to stay out until dark. My husband puts them up around 9 and they will only go in the coop when he turns the light on. I had trouble that night getting them in because I had put fresh pine down and that scared them. I had to carry each one of them inside and put them on the perch.

A couple of years ago we had tornado warnings and the sirens were going off. We were trying to get the chickens to go into the coop and they refused. The wind was blowing so hard and here we were outside rounding up chickens. We finally got them inside. Luckly the tornado didn't touch down around us.

Spiderman and Mary Jane don't seem to be stressed by the heat. They do pant. These two don't do the traveling like yours do. I guess that makes a big difference too. They usually stay in the shady part of the yard. My husband found a cricket and tried to get Spiderman to eat it. He was scared of it and run. So much for his bug catching skills.

I hope everyone has a nice day it's a little cooler here today with temps reaching 85.

They are so cute. I miss mine being little like that. Did you hatch them in an incubater? Thanks for sharing their pics.

Yes I did , I was disappointed when I found that half the eggs were not fertil, but I have a new candler now . I now have 30 chicken eggs in the incubator out of my flock for my late summer hatch .

Well good luck with all those chicken eggs. What kind of chickens do you have? We have one polish hen, two bantam cochans male and female, three easter egger hens, two buff orphington hens, one isa brown hen, one silkie rooster and one heinz 57 rooster who is a mix of everything.

Wow! I give you credit for hatching them yourself! I took the easy way out and bought my keets. Sorry to hear that half of them weren't fertilized. I don't have experience working with hatching eggs, so I don't know if that's normal or not. The picture was so cute with them huddled up together all baby fluff. Enjoy and thanks for sharing!

Patti, I can just picture you running around your yard scooping up chickens to get them into the coop before the storm and tornado warning. If we only had videos of ourselves doing these things, we'd get a lot of laughs. It's interesting that the chickens didn't want to go inside the coop in the storm, just like my Guineas. There must be an internal setting that makes them think they'd be safer in the wild. It drives us crazy though!

Too bad Spider is afraid of crickets. That would be a tasty treat for him. For some reason mine were afraid of their meal worms last night and they eat those almost every day. Very silly birds...

It's not as hot here today, but I think the flock may still be across the road at my neighbors in the woods where it's cooler. I usually see them about this time of day, but they're not hanging around the coop yet. Let's hope last night doesn't keep repeating itself.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone - the few hours left of it - and keep cool!

I'm sure everyone would get a good laugh if we video taped ourselves trying to round up the birds. I was trying to think of some crazy things I do outside and here is a few:

Jumping up and down waving arms and yelling get out of here when a hawk flies in the yard.

Telling Phyllis the polish hen, yes Phyllis I got your raisins at the store.

Donald get off Topper she doesn't want you around her.

Prying a hen or guinea out of the privacy fence and chain link fence. Why in the world would you go in there?

Come back here right now I just want to look at your foot.

No I do not have any treats well wait just a minute I'll find you something.

Falling backwards when pulling on the water hose while trying to fill up the water bowls.

Taking 3 people to round up a 3 pound duck.

Trying out your herding techniques holding arm out straight in front of you. No that didn't work you go get a stick and try that.

Pounding on the duck window because they refuse to come outside.

Slipping in the mud while tending to the birds. Trying to stay upright on solid ice.

My neighbors probably get a big kick out of watching my antics.

OMG! That is too funny, Patti. LOL with that list and picturing myself doing some of the same things. Luckily, my neighbors can't see me here and if they did, they all have animals or poultry and are probably doing / saying the exact same things!

I'd like to add - Tripping over tree roots in the dark while trying to herd the flock into the coop before the arrival of a severe thunderstorm... all the time talking to them in a sing-song voice (about an octave higher than my usual) and saying, "C'mon, you can do it, get in your coop."

I'm sure others could add to the list as well. We could use a good chuckle from our combined silliness today.

Anyone else willing to share?

Thanks and I know what you mean tripping in the yard at night. Our yard is so unlevel and trying to walk at night is almost impossible. Oh yes the different voice we use when talking to them. I hope everyone shares their embarrassing moments we need a good laugh today.
