Guinea talk.

@guineapeeps - those feather patterns are beautiful. I have seen directions for feather wreaths and I'm sure yours will be stunning. How many feathers do you need to do that?

@Dmontgomery - I'm still looking for your size and if I find them, you'll have to post a pic.

@MartinsPoultry - good luck training your dog. The Guardian livestock dogs are amazing. Hopefully, that will keep everyone a bit safer.

Sad to say, we lost Jo Jo - my last French Jumbo - to a predator, probably a fox. In my mind, I want to think he was helping to keep the rest of the flock safe. He certainly did that many times before, but was at a disadvantage for a quick escape not being able to fly well. So far, everyone else has dodged the foxes, coyotes and hawks... I'll be keeping my eye on Elwood - half regular domestic, half French Jumbo. The Jumbo Lavenders are different from my French Jumbos and they fly with the best of them.

Here are a few new pics taken yesterday. Stay safe everyone and don't let the colder weather get you down.

Yikes! Sorry, everything tripled up on me. Not sure how to delete.

Ok so James and I might loose a young guinea. We are getting slammed by a nor eastern and I didn't have enough time to prep for it for the young crew in the A-frame which we moved them in little over two weeks ago. All the guineas and chickens are soaked worse ones came inside but im planning another run out there to move the rest into the barn under a heat lamp to dry off.

But my worry is with one guinea who is acting off, yesterday I caught the chicken in my profile photo trying to mount her, i stopped that as soon as I saw it, and today James and I had the dogs at petco for their vetco as a walk in clvet for dogs and cats we got both dogs their shots. by the time we got home everyone was soaked to the bone i dried as many as i could off and locked them up on dry bedding. But like i stated above the young ones who were shivering worse than others came in warmed them with warm water to get the mud off and giving them warm water and warm fermented feed. But the guinea isn't wanting to eat or drink and she stumbles forward. She is on my lap under a heating pad on low and is sleeping.

She just died. the passed twenty minutes or so she was having seizures, I comforted her talked to her and she died in my hands on my lap.
My entire flock has been treated for worms, cocci and mites. We think she might have had some type of head injury we couldn't see...
I will be keeping an eye on everyone closely. And tomorrow hopefully after this storm blows over we will treat for mites.

Oh no. So sorry you lost her. :hugs Hope the rest of your flock is happy and healthy!

@MartinsPoultry - Oh, Christy... so sorry to hear. Very sad to lose even one and you give them all such good care. Thinking of you and sending a hug. :hugs

@guineapeeps - thank you for your thoughts on Jo Jo. I know he had a good life and was VERY happy once the flock of lavenders accepted him as their leader. What a love bug! :love He will be missed and so far... no more have been taken by predators. I still think the French Jumbos were more vulnerable, so it will be interesting to see how the remainder of the flock fairs since they are all good at flying.
