that is awesome about the deer and wow that is cool about the turkeys.

you guys turkey hunt? my province is like the only one with out wild turkeys :( we get pheasants (to hunt) but i rather hunt turkeys. lol

Yes we have a separate turkey season. The wild turkey population has increased a bunch over the past 10 years. I haven’t taken one in probably 3-4 years. This was the last one, I think.

Did the population get killed out? Or there is just no season for them? I’ve seen pheasants here, but very rarely. Not sure why that is.

we just don't have them, and to be honest i don't know why.
which sucks i would love to hunt them but i have to travel either about 10 or 18 hours (depends which way you go east or west) just so i can hunt them. due to the fact that Alberta and MB only allow residents to hunt turkeys. its fair for the fact that in my province only residents can hunt pheasants and ptarmigan.

I haven't hunted turkey in several years. Here, there is a limit of 2 per person, per year. I'd go to my dad's property and get my limit when they were plentiful. The years they were sparse, I would leave them be. Usually when I did that, there were plenty the following year. There was a spot on his place that had a nice patch of Pangola grass. They loved eating the new growth coming up in that patch.

that is awesome and awesome of you for leaving them alone when there low in population (we need more hunters like that).

wish my province did that with white tail a few years ago. we had some really hard winters i think 3 in a row, and the white tail got killed off pretty hard (same with the pronghorn but they went south). but they just let everyone buy a tag as normal.
swear there are more mule deer then white tail where i ever go. lol

Part of being a true hunter, is knowing when conservation is called for, ensuring plenty to hunt in the future. It's also prudent, in the plentiful years, to actually hunt, and thin the population some. That ensures enough food, and water, so they will thrive.

Absolutely agree. :thumbsup

I have a cva optima .45 inline muzzleloader. Bought it on sale was the only reason I ended up with it, $180 with extras, same thing in .50 cal everywhere else was $350.
.45 used to be pretty popular yrs ago, advertised 'shoots farther and flatter'
Been kinda phased out, most just have the .50
Getting really hard to find ammo and powder for it. If anyone else has one, buy what you can, triple 7 pellet powder and modern either power belt and saboted bullets are almost not anywhere even to order .
I might have to switch to loose powder and saboted round balls... :hmm
