ChickieMama gave me 14 Autralorp(I think) peanuts and 3 Cochins.
Two of the Cochins were runts and unhealty. The first only lasted a
few days but the one tonight was over 3 weeks old. It was sad. He
was just sitting there cold under the light. I tried to bring him in and
warm him in front of the fire but it didn't help.

Even though they are fryers it's still sad when they don't make it and
get a chance to range and scratch and do all the chicken stuff. After
so many culls it doesn;t get any easier to euthanize a chick either.

Yeah, ideal threw in 3 male cochins. I feather sexed them at day 3 and
they were definately males. There is still one left and he's healthy.

I'd never buy Cochins as fryers. I've never even had a Cochin. I have
a feeling he may be spared.

You see right through me.

He's a cute little guy and is holding his own against the Australorps
which are already twice his size.

I had One Standard Cochin roo and his 7 hens. I sold off 3 of them a while back because a nice lady fell in love with them. Out of the 4 I kept One died due to a fox attach (I am guessing heart attack) and the other three then went to a gentle man I traded NJG for.

I kept the roo and I will have him until he goes to the chicken gates in chicken heaven. I really like the old fart and he has an easy comfortable life here.
