Had to put a LOCK on my chicken coop

we do try to take care of their kiddos when they come over...which is a lot...they are the "supposed" ring leaders for the burglaries in town as of late...maybe my house hasnt been targeted YET b'cuz I'm
nice to them (to an extent), do take care of their kids when they come over, I do feed them (Friday they all had watermelon, bananas and PBJ's...), we just bought a Bible for the 9 yr old girl who asked me for one..
we took the kids to VBS, we have made cookies, pies to take over etc....so maybe keeping enemies closer is a good thing here? lol...ehh..not really LOL'ing...

My brother in law; owns a security company; I can always get him to come put up cameras..he has access to dummy cameras too..but I have a home based biz and if they found out that I had $$$$$ of inventory; I'm sure
I'd be targeted..and hubby works overnights...soo..its kind of scarey to put that all together..maybe I should get a system...hubby wont pay to have it monitored tho..

I think maybe I'll go to the county police office..since the local one seems to have a "dirty cop"...the burglaries are always taking place when ONE particular cop is on duty...

a lot of assumptions, circumstancial evidence...but no proof...<sigh> its a big ole mess..and dangerous at that..

I live in the country ... but yet only one mile outside the city limits. I had a guy walk through the woods, with ticks, chiggers, snakes and skitters to approach me 3 times. He was only wearing shorts and shoes. He never introduced himself but wanted to know what beed of chicken I have. When I asked where he lives he took of running. I called the cops. Within one week I had to call the cops 2 more times. I told him I put up my signs. The Deputy Sheriff said signs are not required. I told him my husband would never hear me scream behind the shop. What am I suppose to do? What would your wife do? He said, "My wife would pull a gun." I said, so you think I should shoot in the air once and then if he still approches me, shoot him? He said Yup, then call 911. He said no one has the right to come on to your property posted or not posted. If you let them fine, but if they don't have permission, it's illegal. Pretty scarey. But now I lock the coop and run doors and have a loaded 45 cal in the coop. I al so put night LED lights out there.

I've had a few pretty blunt talks with folks in the past like that. I point to my cameras, and I tell them, if you come on my property when I'm here, you might not leave on your own feet. If I see you after the fact, I'll track you down. (Only do so if you have the means and skills to do so.) Some people seriously are just not people. They are animals, and only understand when spoken to in a VERY direct manner. I believe I mentioned that I have a backhoe in one such conversation. Meant every word said, and they took it to heart.

My brother who is a MP w/the Army says the same thing..as well as my cousin by marriage who is a police officer...

I almost have to agree on this one. To me when a gun is pulled and pointed it is automatic the next action is to pull the trigger. Not in the air but at a target. I guess if you feel you need to shoot and not wound because of fear of killing, I would say shoot into the ground at the persons feet and let them know you can hit what you aim at and will. The next shot will be 3 feet higher in the groin area. If that felt anything like my hernia surgery it will stop him, not kill but sting like 10 fires in there all at once. Some folks will think I'm a lunatic but I carry everwhere I go. The local sheriff told me I'm licensed by the State of Georgia to carry and I need to. The way the bad folks are babied these days it's up to me to protect me and mine. That I will do.

We had two "bandits" off I 75 running from the law here a while back. One got caught and one got away. The one that got away was found by my neighbor sleeping in his wooded area one morning and he didn't have his pistol. He keep his one hand in his coat pocket as though he did and told the fellow he best get up and get gone. He now carries. That scared him pretty good. That punk was caught also.

Just a side note for a creative "No Tresspassing" Sign. Over this summer we lived in the country while waiting on our current home to be ready. Our neighbor had a sign that read "Prayer is the best way to meet the Lord. Trespassing is Faster".

But as to your other thread problem and this thread. Have you considered strands of electric fencing around the bottom edge of the fencing? We used these in the country, with the setting turned up to the highest voltage. The OTHER NEIGHBOR's dogs were similar to yours. but they got zapped by that stuff once, and have not come near since.

IF that doesn't work, you could always offer the doggies nice treats laced with not so nice poison inside. It's not very orthodox, but when dealing with neighbors like that, and the authorities don't do anything, you have to get un-orthodox.

I would keep up the nice pretense and tend to the kids,but call CPS from a pay phone.I would put up the cameras just to see what goes on during the night or when you are not there. The electric fence sounds good along with the rotten eggs,but after the rotten eggs I would lock things up.

The guy who is running around in the woods in his shorts creeping up on people well he should be shot.Sorry,but too many creepy people get away with stuff then go on to kill.Case in point the Mt.Vernon guy who killed 2 adults,a boy,a dog,and kidnaped/raped a 13yo in November 2010.Everyone said he was *weird*.He said the house was a random burglary target,but I think he wanted the girl and killed everyone to get her.To bad someone did not shoot HIM before he did what he did.

I don't think the drug dealers will harm or target the OP,but you never know what people will do when they are high and bored.I hope hope they move!Our renter drug dealer family finally moved. The police don't seem to care about small time dealers.
